Super Dry Bones (also called Big Dry Bones or Mega Dry Bones) is an enemy which first appears in New Super Mario Bros. They are a larger variant of the regular Dry Bones. When stomped on, instead of crumbling apart, they either shake their head or rattle their teeth thereby making them more durable than a regular Dry Bones however ground pounds can temporarily crumble a Super Dry Bones. Super Dry Bones are commonly indestructible only to be defeated with the effects of a Starman.
Profile[]
Physical description[]
As the name and description suggests, the Super Dry Bones is just a bigger version of a Dry Bones. There are no changes aesthetically, except for the size.
Behavior[]
Super Dry Bones act much like normal Dry Bones. They walk in one direction, and turn one they meet an edge. But they're not completely the same, since now, instead of just jumping on them to crumble them, you must Ground Pound on them in order to crumble them.
History[]
Super Mario series[]
New Super Mario Bros.[]
The Super Dry Bones makes it's debut in New Super Mario Bros.. In this game, they are commonly found in various Towers and Castles. Two are seen in the highest floor of World 1-Tower but are imprisoned behind stone blocks. Super Dry Bones are later seen in World 5-Castle and World 6-Fortress. Super Dry Bones are tougher than a standard Dry Bones as stomping on them does nothing apart from make them shake their head. A Super Dry Bones can be used to hit higher Question Blocks or jumping onto higher platforms, ground pounding a Super Dry Bones will crumble it however. Like a regular Dry Bones, Super Dry Bones are immune to the effects of the Fire Flower and can only be defeated with the effects of a Blue Shell, Mega Mushroom, or a Starman. If Mini Mario is to stomp on a Super Dry Bones, nothing will happen but if he ground pounds one, it will shake it's head soudning just like Dry Bowser, this has been retained in all later installments of the series.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]
Super Dry Bones return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, in this game, they are slightly more common once again appearing in either Fortresses or Castles. They behave as they did previously however this time, stomping on a Super Dry Bones will cause it to rattle it's teeth rather than shake it's head and just as before, ground pounds can temporarily crumble a Super Dry Bones. A Super Dry Bones can only be defeated with the effects of a Starman, it is immune to the effects of a Fire Flower and the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit can freeze it but it will break free within an instant due to it's size, a Super Dry Bones can be useful for gaining a bit of extra height to reach higher ledges or obtaining certain items. Super Dry Bones first appear in World 6-Castle. If a Super Dry Bones falls in lava, it sinks.
New Super Mario Bros. 2[]
Super Dry Bones return in New Super Mario Bros. 2 once again with the same behavior as before however this time (like their smaller counterparts), they now dance to the music during the "bah" instances. A Super Dry Bones can be crumbled with ground pounds and once again rattle their teeth upon being stomped. A Super Dry Bones can be defeated with the effects of a Gold Flower, Starman, Mega Mushroom, or an Invincibility Leaf. Just as before the effects of a Fire Flower won't work and the effects of a Super Leaf make one rattle it's teeth just as it would if they were stomped. Super Dry Bones are first seen in World 2-Tower.
New Super Mario Bros. U/New Super Luigi U/New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]
Super Dry Bones also appear in New Super Mario Bros. U as well as New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe once again being found in Towers and Castles. They are first seen in Stoneslide Tower and later go on to appear in several later Towers and Castles. Once again, the only way to defeat a Super Dry Bones is with a Starman as they're immune to the effects of a Fire Flower and can break free from the Ice Flower/Penguin Suit's Iceballs almost immediately. A Super Dry Bones can be stomped on for a teeth rattling and ground pounded to be crumbled. In this game, it is shown that Super Dry Bones can walk through lava without an issue.
Super Mario Maker/Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS/Super Mario Maker 2[]
Super Dry Bones appear again in Super Mario Maker as well as its two sequels as placeable enemies. A Super Dry Bones can be made by giving a Dry Bones a Super Mushroom, Super Dry Bones behave the same way they did in the previous games and can only be defeated with the effects of a Starman. A Super Dry Bones can also be given wings to become a Super Parabones.
Mario Party series[]
Mario Party: Island Tour[]
Super Dry Bones (under the name Big Dry Bones in the North American version and Mega Dry Bones in the European version) appear in Mario Party: Island Tour in the Star-Crossed Skyway board. They are seen at the third and fourth Star Stages of the board and if players meet a Super Dry Bones when they reach a Star Stage, they will be rewarded with 7 Mini Ztars.
Mario Party: Star Rush[]
A Super Dry Bones (called Mega Dry Bones) appears as a boss in Mario Party: Star Rush in the minigame Mega Dry Bones's Femur Fever. He is a Dry Bones that was enlarged by Kamek, regular Super Dry Bones are absent however.
Trivia[]
- Due to the Dry Bones being skeletal Koopa Troopas, it is possible that Super Dry Bones are the skeletons of Gargantua Koopa Troopas.
