Yoshi Super Smash Bros.
Not to be confused with Fly Guys, similar enemies with a propeller on their head, or Flying Shy Guys, which they sometimes share a name with.
This article is about the flying Shy Guys from Yoshi's Story. For the similar enemy with propellers on their heads, see Fly Guy.

Propeller Shy Guys, also named Flying Shy Guys, are variants of Shy Guys which first appear in Yoshi's Story.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Propeller Shy Guys resemble regular Shy Guys, except they wear a helicopter-like pack on their back.

Behavior[]

Propeller Shy Guys fly via a helicopter-like pack that they carry on their back consisting of a two-blade propeller (on top of the pack), which spins on a horizontal axis, and an eight-blade propeller (at the back of the pack), which spins on a vertical axis.

In Yoshi's Story[]

Propeller Shy Guy YS sprite

Propeller Shy Guys fly above Baby Yoshi carrying fruit. They will continue to fly back and forth across the area where they appear in, but will immediately fly off-screen if Yoshi eats the fruit they are carrying. Like normal Shy Guys, they change color when a Baby Yoshi performs a Ground Pound near one.

Propeller Shy Guys may appear alone or in a swarm. When swarming, they will alternate between moving across the background and the foreground in a loop. They can be defeated by Baby Yoshi like any other Shy Guy (with the exception of the Black Shy Guy, which has its own characteristics).

Crossover appearances[]

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Super Smash Bros.[]

Propeller Shy Guys appear rarely in the background of Yoshi's Island stage, where one sometimes flies across the screen, going either fast or slow. Occasionally, a slow one will be struggling to carry a melon.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

Propeller Shy Guys appear in the form of both a stage element and a trophy. Propeller Shy Guys are encountered on the Yoshi's Island: Yoshi's Story stage, where they carry food. When attacked softly, or if an object is thrown at them, the Propeller Shy Guy drops his food and flies off the screen; if they are knocked out with an attack, they drop the food they are carrying, and spin downwards off the screen. If food is disabled in the item switch, they do not bring food. They also sometimes appear in the background of the Yoshi's Island stage from Super Smash Bros., renamed Past Stages: Yoshi's Island.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

A Propeller Shy Guy is featured in the form of a Sticker.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

Propeller Shy Guys reappear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where they return as stage elements in the Yoshi's Story stage from Super Smash Bros. Melee.
