Dinosaurs are prehistoric creatures which lived millions of years ago in the real world. Representations of both real-world dinosaurs, such as T-Rexes, and in-universe dinosaurs, such as Yoshis, have sometimes appeared in the Mario franchise. Dinosaurs first appear in Super Mario World, namely those specific to the Mario franchise, while realistic dinosaurs have appeared in early as Mario's Time Machine.

For Donkey Kong games, sauropod-based Dinosaurs make an appearance in certain Dino Domain courses in Diddy Kong Racing. They are peaceful although serve as an obstruction to racers when they walk along the road. The world's boss Tricky is a dinosaur himself, specifically a triceratops.
