Chikunto are a variant of ants, which they resemble, but have retractable spikes on their head and abdomen.
Behavior[]
A Chikunto usually walks with its spikes retracted, making it resemble a regular ant, but when Mario approaches, a Chikunto sticks out its spikes before retracting them again.
In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins[]
Chinkunto are encountered in the level The Ant Monsters. If Mario jump on a Chikunto while its spikes are out, he takes damage. Mario can only safely jump on a Chikunto once it has retracted its spikes. Regardless of their state, a Chinkunto can be defeated from one of Fire Mario's fireballs.
