Bowser in the Fire Sea is a Bowser level in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. The Fire Sea is made up of concrete and mesh platforms above a huge lake of lava. Several Bullies and Goombas guard these platforms and the route to Bowser's arena.
Location[]
The entrance to Bowser in the Fire Sea is found in the same room of Princess Peach's Castle as the entrance to Dire, Dire Docks. Before obtaining the first Power Star from Dire, Dire Docks, the blue portal leading to it will be in front of the entrance to Bowser in the Fire Sea. Once the first Power Star of Dire, Dire Docks is obtained, the blue portal will move to the back of the room, allowing access to Bowser in the Fire Sea. In Super Mario 64, Mario can gain a Power Star from Bowser in the Fire Sea by getting all eight Red Coins. In Super Mario 64 DS, a Switch Star was added, bringing the total amount of Power Stars in Bowser in the Fire Sea to two.
Stars[]
There are 2 Stars located in Bowser in the Fire Sea, they are listed below.
8 Red Coins[]
Bowser in the Fire Sea has 8 Red Coins. Below are their locations.
- Atop the mesh pathway above the square hole at the top.
- On the first of the balancing platforms.
- Near the elevator in the top right corner.
- Underneath the elevator, hop on the elevator and then quickly jump off it and drop to grab the Red Coin.
- Atop the slope, go to the right and climb up the hill, the Red Coin is on the platform with the Bully.
- Climb up the rising ramps, the Red Coin is on the middle one. Grab the Red Coin as the platform rises.
- On the lava platforms near the Flamethrower, quickly grab it and then jump out of the way before you get scorched.
- On the second sinking platform with a pole near the end. Grab it as the platform rises while you're on the pole.
Once all 8 Red Coins have been obtained, the Star will appear on the higher platforms near the 8th Red Coin. Use triple jumps or wall jumps to reach the platform to obtain the Star. Any character can reach it, esp. with the lower thin wall.
Star Switch[]
Near where the 8-Red Coin Star appears is a Star Switch. Hit the Switch and the Star will appear in the earlier area before the sinking lava platforms. Long jump back and hop across the platforms with all speed and obtain your prize. Luigi can reach the Star with a lot more ease due to his backflip spin.
Enemies Encountered[]
- Goomba
- Bully
- Fire Spitter (N64 Only)
- Flamethrower
- Bob-omb
- Fire Chomp (DS Only)
- Bowser (BOSS)
How to Defeat[]
The way to defeat Bowser is the same as in Bowser in the Dark World. However, when Mario throws him off the edge, when he touches land again, the platform will start to rock at about a 135 degree angle, then will slow down, and will go back to normal. In addition, Bowser now has the ability to teleport around the stage, which can make grabbing him an ordeal. Bowser can also chase after Mario to try and run him down. This move can be used against him because Mario can effectively lure him to run close to a Mine to make defeating him much easier. Upon defeating Bowser, Mario will receive the key to the castle's upper floors. If Yoshi is to fight Bowser, Caps will spawn from the fire Bowser produces, Yoshi can put on one of these Caps to start battling Bowser.
