I'm through with tuliza. And this whole forest! There's just one thing I want now. I want to get that Bunga!
―Mama Binturong[src]

Mama Binturong is a female binturong. She is the leader of Makucha's army.

When the Lion Guard crossed through the forest, Mama Binturong ordered her porcupine minions to steal Makini's bakora staff, which held the group's tuliza. Bunga pursued Mama Binturong and took back Makini's staff, destroying Mama Binturong's tuliza stash in the process. Afterward, Mama Binturong swore revenge on Bunga.

Mama Binturong followed the Lion Guard to the Tree of Life, where she became the leader of Makucha, Chuluun, and Ora. As the group's leader, Mama Binturong launched many attacks on the Tree of Life, only to be thwarted again and again by the Lion Guard and the Night Pride. Eventually, she gathered more allies and launched a full-scale invasion of the Tree of Life. However, Kion defeated the army with the Roar of the Elders.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Mama Binturong lived in the forest. Due to her hankering for tuliza, she began hoarding the forest's tuliza and threatened any animal who withheld it from her. At some point in her life, she befriended Smun and his prickle, and employed them to help her control the forest's animals.[1]

Skirmish with Bunga[]

Well, if they want some, they can't have it. And if they have some, then I want it. And we all know why, don't we? Because the tuliza is all mine!
―Mama Binturong[src]

When the Lion Guard ventured into a forest looking for tuliza, they were spied upon by Smun, who immediately took the news to Mama Binturong.

Mama Binturong faces off against Bunga.

Later, Mama Binturong watched the Lion Guard herself. After seeing Makini set down her bakora staff, which had tuliza inside, Mama Binturong instructed her porcupine minions to fetch it. She then retreated with the staff to her lair.

The Lion Guard soon discovered who had taken Makini's staff, and they sent Bunga into Mama Binturong's lair to retrieve it. Deep within the rocky canyon, Bunga found Mama Binturong, and the two faced off. Mama Binturong's porcupine cronies attempted to intimidate Bunga with their quills, but neither they nor Mama Binturong were a match for him. Eventually, Bunga decimated Mama Binturong's stash of tuliza by spraying musk, and he left her lair with Makini's staff. Enraged by the defeat, Mama Binturong vowed to get her revenge on Bunga.[1]

Mama Binturong's plot[]

The queen of the Tree of Life is old and weak. She can't even leave her lair. We take her out, and everyone will panic.
―Mama Binturong to her army[src]

After Makucha and his army failed to infiltrate the Tree of Life, they regrouped outside the mountain pass. There, they were approached by Mama Binturong, who introduced herself as their new leader.[2]

The Night Pride accepts Mama Binturong for healing at the Tree of Life.

Mama Binturong plotted to invade the Tree of Life by pretending to seek sanctuary from Makucha and his army. She explained to her allies that she would have to avoid Bunga, as he was the only member of the Lion Guard who might recognize her. The army enacted the plan, and the Night Pride fell for it, accepting Mama Binturong for healing at the Tree of Life.

Later, Mama Binturong and the Lion Guard (save Bunga) were led into the Tree of Life, where Janna accepted Mama Binturong for healing. Not wanting to give herself away, Mama Binturong introduced herself as a "ginterbong," which confused Ono. She asked for a tour of the territory, but Janna explained that the Night Pride rested during the daytime. Rani then showed Mama Binturong to a grove of trees, which smelled strongly of honey badger.

Mama Binturong steals a pika's tuliza.

On their way to meet Bunga, the Lion Guard ran into Mama Binturong. They invited her to meet Bunga, but she declined and climbed up a tree to rest. Ono watched in confusion, wondering why she was no longer limping. The team met Binga, and Beshte explained that Kion was still healing with Nirmala. Mama Binturong spied on the conversation and came up with a plan to defeat the Lion Guard and the Night Pride. Before she left, she stole tuliza from a pika, which Ono witnessed.

Mama Binturong returned to her allies and instructed them to kill Janna while she distracted the Night Pride. The plan went into motion, with the Night Pride falling for Mama Binturong's cries for help. In the meantime, Makucha, Chuluun, and Ora snuck over the border.

Ullu the owl informed the Lion Guard of Mama Binturong's peril, and they resolved to help her. However, Ono realized that Mama Binturong had called Chuluun by name in her cries for help, which indicated that they were working together. The Lion Guard headed to the Tree of Life instead and headed off Makucha, Chuluun, and Ora.

Meanwhile, Mama Binturong attacked Bunga and Binga. The Night Pride arrived, and Mama Binturong attempted to blame the honey badgers for the fight. However, Ullu arrived and informed the Night Pride of Mama Binturong's deception. Bunga and Binga then used their stench to defeat Mama Binturong.[3]

Mama Binturong spies on the Lion Guard and the Night Pride.

Mama Binturong and her army launched an attack on the Tree of Life. The Night Pride challenged them, though Baliyo's yawning exposed how exhausted they were from a night of patrolling. The Lion Guard arrived in time to help, but Kion and Rani's dual leadership resulted in confusion.

Eventually, the Lion Guard and the Night Pride succeeded in driving off the army, after which Kion offered to patrol the Tree of Life during the day in order to give the Night Pride time to rest. Rani gratefully accepted his offer. Unbeknownst to the team, Mama Binturong was spying on their conversation from a nearby tree.

Mama Binturong is carried off by Anga.

Later, Mama Binturong schemed with her allies against the Lion Guard and the Night Pride, ordering the army to attack in-between shifts at sunset. The plan went into action, and Ullu warned the Lion Guard that the army was launching another attack. The Night Pride arrived, and Kion led the two teams in their attack. The teams succeeded, with Mama Binturong getting carried off in Anga's talons.[5]

Battle for the Tree of Life[]

Mama Binturong brings in new allies for her army.

After the fight, Bunga complimented Kion's leadership skills, and Nirmala agreed, adding that Kion's healing was complete. Rani worried that this would prompt Kion to return to the Pride Lands, but Kion assured her that he and the Lion Guard would help defend the Tree of Life from Makucha's army first.

After the army's defeat, Mama Binturong brought in new allies for her army, including Fahari, Jiona, two Komodo dragons, and Smun and his prickle. Ullu attempted to warn the Night Pride, but Mama Binturong captured her and tasked Smun and his prickle with keeping her incapacitated. However, Ullu scared off Smun by turning her head completely backward and managed to escape.

Triumph393

Mama Binturong is defeated by Kion's Roar of the Elders.

Ullu warned the Night Pride about the army's attack, and they rushed to the Tree of Life, only to be shut in by a giant rock pushed by Ora and his minions. With the Night Pride out of commission, the army attacked the animals at the Tree of Life. Shortly afterward, the Lion Guard arrived, having been warned by Ullu, and resolved to free the Night Pride from the army's trap.

Kion, Bunga, and Rani soon arrived, and Kion used the Roar of the Elders to defeat the villains. He then struck the rock at the Tree of Life's entrance with lightning, destroying it and freeing the Night Pride. Finally, Kion swept Mama Binturong and her army into a tornado, which sent them far away from the Tree of Life.[6]

Mama Binturong is a large and heavyset binturong. She has dark gray fur, with pale fur ringing her neck and on her muzzle. She has white ears, long gray whiskers, brown eyes, and a beauty mark on her left cheek.[1]
