Earlier this year, Square Enix announced a new line of action figures to celebrate the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The designs harken back to how the characters looked in the original 1997 PlayStation game, and the figures themselves begin shipping later this year. I want them all, but I’ll probably need to win a few more scratch-offs before that happens.
The figures for Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, Aerith, and the rest of the gang are part of Square Enix’s Bring Arts line of gaming collectibles and come with their respective weapons and adjustable ball joints to set them up in the action pose of your choosing. Unlike some articulated figures that occasionally sacrifice looks for flexibility, I actually think all of these look surprisingly good. Well, maybe not that surprising given the price.
Each figure is around $120. If you want them all, that’s going to be about $1,200. Throw in Cloud’s Hardy-Daytona motorcycle and you’re talking another $120 on top of that. Still, it’s an appealing proposition. In addition to each character’s weapon, from Cloud’s Buster Sword to Sephiroth’s Masamune, each figure also nails many of the little intricate details that have made the original character portraits so iconic nearly three decades later.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth games have been surprisingly great, but retro charm and personal nostalgia mean I’ll always favor the original 1997 look of the planetary saviors. Click through the above slideshow for a look at each one and a link to where it can be pre-ordered as inventory becomes available. Some of the FFVII Brings Arts figures are expected to begin shipping in late 2024 while other arrive by the summer of 2025.
