Fashion - 1830s
The high waistline, just below the bust, of the 1800s-mid-1820s had moved down closer to the natural waist by the 1830s. Big sleeves reached their height of fashion, including gigot sleeves (a.k.a. leg of mutton sleeves) that ballooned out on the upper arm, and were tight over the forearm. Skirts became bell-shaped, with many petticoats worn underneath.
