Abby is the deuteragonist of the 2010 horror film Let Me In, which is a remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. She is a 12-year old vampire who forms an enigmatic friendship with her neighbor Owen, who is being bullied at school, while she hunts humans to kill for their blood.
She is played by Chloe Grace-Moretz, who also played Carrie White in the 2013 film.
Her Evil Ranking[]
Debated Validations[]
- She seems to care for Owen, showing concern when seeing he's been beaten up, and saved him from being drowned by his bullies. Also, when she feels the urge to feed, she frantically warns Owen to get away from her, as she doesn't want to harm him. However, the film makes it ambiguous whether Abby loves Owen or if she is manipulating him so he'll become her new caretaker. The film's director confirmed this was deliberate, and audiences could make up their own minds.
- She appears remorseful for treating her caretaker badly when she sees that he's mutilated his face to try to protect her, but this isn't confirmed, and she still kills him for his blood.
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- She kills innocent people for their blood, and doesn't show remorse for this.
- She's implied to have met her current caretaker when he was a child himself, and to have manipulated him into serving her. It’s likely that she has also groomed other people into serving her in the past.
- As she becomes closer to Owen, she treats her caretaker indifferently, and at one point yells at him for messing up.
- She poses as a helpless child to lure a man in, before killing him for his blood.
- She kills her caretaker in the hospital when he is caught and becomes a liability. While she seems regretful for it, and he willingly offered himself to her, it's likely she would have killed him regardless to keep him from talking.
- She attacks a woman for her blood, leaving the woman seriously injured but alive. The woman starts to become a vampire, and is so horrified by this that she deliberately commits suicide via sunlight, killing a nurse in the process, so Abby is indirectly responsible for their deaths.
- She kills a policeman who is investigating the deaths, which traumatizes Owen.
- She massacres Owen's bullies, and while it's hard to feel much sympathy for them, three of them (Kenny and his two friends) were having second thoughts and wanted to back out when they realized Jimmy was actually going to drown Owen, making it disproportionate.
- While she is a vampire, the film shows that she has moral agency and chooses to kill humans for their blood, so it's not a prevention.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She did not want to be a vampire, but was once a normal girl who was turned into one against her will, making her tragic.
- She only kills people for their blood or to protect Owen, and doesn't seem to enjoy killing.
Trivia[]
- The filmmakers deliberately left it ambiguous whether Abby truly cares for Owen or not. If the film had confirmed that she was just manipulating him, then she would likely qualify for NPE or even Pure Evil.
