IVC Data and Insights report on the Israeli venture market for Q1-Q3 2024 reveals: - $7.4 billion invested in Israeli startups, surpassing the entire 2023 total of $6.9 billion. - $13 billion generated from exits, a 26% increase from 2023's $10.4 billion. - 23% surge in foreign investments year-over-year. - 67% of capital sourced from global investors, with 33% from Israeli funds. - $2.7 billion secured by early-stage startups, the second-highest figure in Israeli startup ecosystem history (after 2022's record). These figures demonstrate investors' confidence in the long-term sustainability of the Israeli startup ecosystem. Trust received, challenge accepted. We're building the future, brick by brick.

In H1 498 VC funds made 752 investments in Israeli hi-tech industry. I do not know what about you, but I'm impressed, especially considering the war and everything else going around. The vast majority of investors I speak with agree that this is a very good time to invest in Israeli start-ups. Fast-Track Funding Program Israeli Tech Companies Program's Description As a quick response to the challenges tech companies are facing, as a result of the “Iron Swords” war, the Israel Innovation Authority is offering a “Fast Track” funding program to support technological companies and projects. Goal of the incentive program This funding program operates through the Innovation Authority’s R&D fund and is designed for innovative Israeli tech companies with a short runway (up to 6 months) that are in the process of raising capital. Those companies that experience challenges in raising capital due to the situation and in need of bridge funding, are the target of this program. Who is the incentive program for? The fast track is designed for Israeli companies who are in the midst of development/early sales with substantial assets (technologies, unique team, consumers etc). What do you get? The Innovation Authority will offer up to 7.5 million NIS grants under this program, 50% of which will be matched by existing or new investors. https://lnkd.in/evWas9nr

Corporate innovation explorers, check this podcast out - Always great doing things with Jeff Amerine, PMP, thanks for hositng me on the Innovation Junkie podcast, some key takeaways from our discussion that I thought would be interesting to share here: 1 - "The innovation curve" - know where you and your organization are on the innvoation curve and learn what's needed for that stage, some organizations are very early in the process and need to work on culture and basic infrasturcure and some are more advanced and need to focus on scale. 2 - "Startup Ready Enterprise" - You don't only need an "enterprise ready startup", you also need a "startup ready enterprise", find out what does your internal process look like and what will be required for people in your org. to be able to take in working with startups. (some of the things will be discovered only once you run a few startups through the process) 3 - "Don't wing it" Establish a structured process and methodology for evaluating, piloting, and implementing startup solutions. This ensures focus, speed, and alignment between the startup and corporate stakeholders. The friction and effort from misalignment and lack of transparency are too expensive for you and your organization, you don't have a lot of time. 4 - "Communicate and then over communicate" Bridge the cultural gap between startups and large enterprises by providing clear guidance and setting expectations early in the engagement process. This helps startups understand the corporate environment, terminology, and decision-making processes and also people on your team to be able to know what's coming up next. 5 - "Less surprises for everyone, more resutls" - Involve key stakeholders like procurement, legal, and security teams from the start to identify and adapt internal processes that may hinder innovation.Their buy-in and flexibility are crucial for successful implementation. 6. "You can do it!, they did it" Instill a belief in the "art of possible" by learning from peers who have successfully implemented corporate innovation programs. This can help overcome internal resistance and skepticism. The event provided valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in fundraising, including alternative financing methods. The title is off a bit, as both of these firms are actually reopening offices. Welcome back! In 2006, Berkshire Hathaway completed its first foreign purchase - a company called Iscar less than 10 miles from the Lebanon border. As Thomas Friedman wrote at the time: "Buffett paid $4 billion for 80 percent of Iscar and the deal just happened to close a few days before Hezbollah, a key part of Iran's holding company, attacked Israel in July 2006, triggering a month-long war. I asked Iscar's chairman, Eitan Wertheimer, what was Buffett's reaction when he found out that he had just paid $4 billion for an Israeli company and a few days later Hezbollah rockets were landing outside its parking lot. Buffett just brushed it off with a wave, recalled Wertheimer: "He said, 'I'm not interested in the next quarter. I'm interested in the next 20 years.' " Wertheimer repaid that confidence by telling half his employees to stay home during the war and using the other half to keep the factory from not missing a day of work and setting a production record for the month." Ultimately, the acquisition was so successful that Buffet paid an additional $4B to exercise the option on the remaining 20%. Israeli tech has shown its trademark resilience once again since the Hamas invasion. Clearly these top firms understand value when they see it.

The Q3 2024 Israeli capital raising preliminary report is out with some positive trends/ momentum, which is pretty remarkable, given the war. 🔹 Israeli startups raised $2.43 billion in the third quarter of 2024, across 99 rounds, representing a 32% increase compared to the same period in 2023 (pre war). Excluding the large transactions (6 transactions of over $100 million), the investments in the third quarter amounted to $1.33, a 5% increase compared to the previous quarter. ♦️ Despite the growth, Q3 2024 saw a 20% decrease in funding and a 17% drop in deal volume compared to Q2 2024, highlighting volatility. 🔹 In contrast to the dominance of the cyber sector in the previous quarter (62% of the total capital raised), in the third quarter the scope The transactions amounted to about 14% of the total of all rounds. SSI Inc. $1 billion round accounted for 41% of total Q3 investments. ♦️ Foreign investor participation remained strong, while local investor activity declined due to geopolitical and economic uncertainties. #Israel ranks third in the world for companies using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), according to a new report by the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA), the branch of government dedicated to advancing the national high-tech sector. GenAI is a subset of artificial intelligence focused on creating content, analysis and solutions beyond its explicit programming. GenAI can also understand, learn and generate actions based on complex patterns and data. According to the IIA report, 4 percent of global GenAI companies are Israeli, coming behind just the United States (886 companies) and the United Kingdom (93 companies). Is it shopping season for Israeli technology? The recent surge in M&A activity in Israel is the most significant sign of hope and optimism I’ve seen since October 7th. It demonstrates the potential of Israeli tech and the faith placed in it by top global companies. When technology leaders choose to further expand into Israel and acquire local teams, you know financial outlooks are positive. In cybersecurity - often the poster-child of Israeli tech - we’ve seen five acquisitions in quick succession totaling more than $1Bn. Flow Security by CrowdStrike (~$200M), Avalor Security, a Zscaler Company ($350M), Gem Security (acquired by Wiz) ($350M), Silk Security by Armis ($150M) and Entitle by BeyondTrust (~150M). All are led by exceptional individuals, well done! Perhaps more telling is the emerging AI industry. Last week NVIDIA announced its acquisition of two companies for a combined value of $1Bn. Congratulations RunAI ($700M) and Deci AI ($300M). Mainstream media is so focused on the voices of a racist minority calling for boycotts and divestments that they fail to capture actual news. Antisemites might yell the loudest, but the actions of multinational corporations speak louder than words. I am optimistic about the future. Are you?
