In 1997, Kenny G earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for playing the longest note ever recorded on a saxophone. Using circular breathing, Kenny G held an E-flat for 45 minutes and 47 seconds at J Music World in New York City.

Kenny G is trying to stay focused. “Keep it quiet!” the saxophonist says as he tees up his ball on the mini golf mat set up in the Los Angeles home rented for his People photo shoot. His determination to get a hole in one is in jest, but with anything Kenny G does—whether it’s playing golf or performing a sold-out show—the musician demands perfection. “It’s just the way I’m wired,” he explains. “I always tell people that you can have a really good life if you get really good at something.”
