Knuckles the Echidna is the tritagonist of the anime OVA Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie.
He is an anthropomorphic echidna and is known as a lonely traveler and treasure hunter. He is also a long-time friend of Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails.
He was voiced by Bill Wise in the English version, and by Yasunori Matsumoto in the Japanese version.
Appearance[]
Knuckles is an anthropomorphic red echidna, with a peach-colored muzzle and black nose, has a crescent-shaped patch of white fur on the chest and purple eyes. It also has seven dreadlock-like spines around the sides and back of its head and a medium-sized, three-crooked tail.
He is wearing red and yellow sneakers with gray plates with sextuple bolts on top, on his hands he has white boxer gloves with and two spiked knuckles on each hand. He is also wearing a brown cowboy hat which has a blue stripe around it which is decorated with yellow circles with red five-pointed stars on them. Knuckles also usually carries a brown and cream-colored travel bag and blue sunglasses to protect his eyes from bright light.
Personality[]
This version of Knuckles is friendlier and kinder, always ready to help friends when they need him. However, he can also be greedy at times, like when he says that helping Sonic and Tails defeat Metal Robotnik is another job they don't pay him for and even says he'll put it on their behalf.
He gets angry easily and is also slightly vindictive, getting mad at Sonic for accidentally stepping on his head and hitting him later as revenge. Knuckles is also extremely flustered whenever a girl shows him affection and can easily be seduced by a girl into doing favors.
Powers and Abilities[]
Like Sonic, Knuckles is able to move fast from place to place, being able to jump from high levels and having good fighting skills. He is also known being able to glide in the air, although it is shown to be more akin to flying for unknown reasons. He is able to climb on walls as well, and being able to digging underground, even in the hottest furnace of the volcano.

Trivia[]
- Originally, this was not meant to be the first appearance of Knuckles in animated media, he was going to be introduced in the cancelled third season of the SatAM, and the red eyes appearing right at the end of the series finale were meant to belong to him until they ended up being Naugus's, which was two years before this film was produced.
- In the original Japanese version, Knuckles is a mole, not an echidna, and it is also stated that he is an "accomplished flyer".
- Coincidentally, in the movie, Knuckles is seen in a Whack-a-Mole parody and called "Mister Mole" by Sara.
- The hat he wears in this film is seen in the teaser image of Paramount's spin-off for Knuckles in the Sonic the Hedgehog films.
