David Copperfield is a novel written by Charles Dickens, first published in 1850. Considered the most autobiographical of Dickens's novels, it follows the life story of a man named David Copperfield, who has to fend for himself at an early age following the death of his mother.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe played the younger David Copperfield in a 1999 TV film of the story, in his first ever screen appearance. Dawn French, Maggie Smith (as Betsey Trotwood), Zoë Wanamaker, Paul Whitehouse, Imelda Staunton, and Simpson McKendry also appeared in the film.
- Daniel was approached to audition for the role of Harry Potter in part because director Chris Columbus had watched the 1999 David Copperfield film in which Radcliffe had appeared and said "I want to at least see this boy".[2]
