I think it is very important that we start conversations about racism with children, that we take the time to explain why it is so important to address this issue. I have a fear that grade schools are becoming 'STEM blind' - that STEM subjects are now becoming the only focus of education - to the detriment and diminishment of social issues. Books like this can open the eyes of children in a very age appropriate way....more

For the most part IVery nice introduction to this very controversial issue. I was somewhat surprised to find a book on this topic for young children. For the most part I agree with everything said in this book: however it is my belief that calling for the end of all prisons is a very disingenuous stance to take. I do agree that there is much work to be done in America when it comes to the cause/effect of incarceration and equal access to the legal system. ...more

Yigal Zur takes you behind the curtain of transnational crime and places you alongside Dotan Naor (an Israeli private investigator who use to work for Shin Bet) as he tries to find Eden, a 12-year old girl who has disappeared in Thailand. What follows is a 'mosaic' of corruption that includes members of Eden's own family and organized crime. Dotan soon finds himself in a labyrinth of greed and deception - and there are those who never want him to find a way out. Highest recommendation. ...more

This book was not what I expected - it is the first book on the subject that I have read that really makes you feel as if you are there in the interview room. Another dimension of this book that is so often overlooked is the lasting effect such murders have on the community; the psychic scars that will always be there after such a killing takes place. Contextually layered yet crisp and flowing, this book will appeal to both serious students of serial killers and those just wanting to read an exciting book on crime. ...more

His boss wants him to lay low for a year; under the protection of the Yakuza. But can a man who is a 'prodigy killer' escape into a normal life? And why do so many people seem to want to see if the 'Fable' is true? Gritty violence that would make Sam Peckinpah blush!...more

There are two other distinct organized crime groups in Italy: the 'Ndrangheta from Calabria and the Camorra from Campania. This book is a behind the scenes look at the Camorra. Construction, high end fashion, hazardous waste removal - the tentacles of the Camorra reach every level of politics and governance in Campania and beyond. This book is one of the most graphically violent accounts of criminal activity I have ever read. Not for the faint of heart. ...more

Is something 'holy' because the gods love it; or do the gods love it because it is 'holy' - better to ask: are conceptions of what is 'holy' transcendent of time and place; and can temporal beings determine how gods will view a given situation in the year 2525 - lets ask Zager and Evans (Exordium & Terminus)! ...more

Using the Chinese Zodiac as an underlying theme this book looks at the artist and the man; the different points where both identities intersect, the responsibility of the man and artist when faced with repression. I still found this a powerful look at artistic vision standing up to autocratic ideologies. ...more

Harry Dunn is a Capital Police Officer who was there on 1/6/21 - trying to hold back wave after wave of 'protestors' who wanted to engage in breaching United States Capitol buildings. There is no question in my mind that there was a 'tactical' component to what happened that day: and once you establish that it is very hard to argue that it was a protest that 'just got out of hand.' What Harry and his fellow officers went through that day needs to be addressed - read this book to get a 'frontline' perspective of what happened that day....more
