Sara's Fear: Elementals Book 1

Rate this book
At 16, my biggest problem should be just fitting in. Or, in my case not standing out. It shouldn’t be people trying to murder me, family secrets and ancient super powers!
My nightmares are getting worse, some psycho is trying to kill me, my only friend decides he loves me, and my dog isn’t real. I can’t begin to explain that last one. Oh yeah, it turns out my entire life is a lie and I have powers that will kill me.

In a few short days, Sara’s life is turned upside down and given a rough shake. She finds out her parents, Bobby, her teachers and even her dog aren’t what they appear to be. Now on the run, the family must protect Sara from an unknown assassin. If this weren’t bad enough, she's inherited a power that could end up killing her before the assassin does. Sara’s family races for answers while she tries to get control of her powers before they kill her instead.

This was a fast paced, action packed audiobook. The narrator, Nick Flesher, really brings the characters to life. He is top notch! Sara is a high school girl who has to grow up pretty fast as there are attempts on her life. But why? This triggers a revelation that will change the course of her life. The following adventure takes you to a cliff hanger that gets your heart racing. It’s not totally a happy ending, but Sara’s adventure is not over yet.

There is a pretty cool magic system based on colors. Sara has a dog that I would take home with me too. I’m ready for the next book. Kudos to the author, K.C. Roy.

I received this audiobook in a giveaway from the author on TikTok and it was a pleasure listening to it. K.C. Roy has a special story on how he came to write this book. I know his mom is so proud of him.

I Enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this book. One of the many unique aspects of this book is the portrayal of the main character, Sara. She is depicted as a socially awkward teenager, adding depth and relatability to her character. As readers follow Sara's journey, they witness her growth and resilience in the face of extraordinary circumstances. This relatability creates a strong connection between the readers and Sara, making her struggles and triumphs all the more compelling.

The exploration of special abilities and the presence of powers within Sara and those close to her adds an intriguing supernatural element to the story. As Sara uncovers her abilities, readers are taken on a journey of self-discovery, witnessing her struggles and triumphs as she learns to harness and control her newfound powers. This aspect of the book adds an exciting layer of mystery and adventure, keeping readers engaged and eager to uncover the secrets surrounding Sara and her unique abilities.

definitely pulls you into the story

This was an immense read. I wasn’t to happy with the formatting of the book, at least from reading it off kindle unlimited and I believe I marked page 57 which had a weird link attached to it that I immediately closed the window that came up not sure if the author meant to have a link in the book. The story itself was interesting and it took me a few solid days to finish it but I love fantasy and sci fi so it was worth it. I keep think when the main character was learning how it would look like on a Netflix special ie the training montage, with some music as she learns and gets better. Solid book I’d recommend as a good fantasy read or for those looking for a strong female lead.

Sara's Fear brought me along for a journey with dynamic characters, parental secrets, mysterious council that takes notice, lives in danger, family drama, teacher/ mentor relationships, and complex power systems.

It started strong with action events of an attempted apprehension which turns into an ambush of sorts (not a spoiler because that's just a plot device to set things in motion) and the main protagonist's parents deciding to move away from a corrupt council.

Fast forward to Sara, focusing in on more main plot, who gives a realistic representation of what it's like to have natural clumsiness and is an FMC who has to work or train to become stronger. Isn't automatically portrayed as strong. Despite her abilities being impressive, she has negative side effects and has to work to control it. Which hasn't happened yet but provided another book could give more character development on this.

There's a good representation of severe cases of Hemophobia. Where Sara is afraid of blood to the point of dizzy spells and cookies tossed. If you're afraid of blood (I'm not) this is possible a point of relatibility.

There appears to be ominous vibes throughout but no solid threats until closer to the end of the book. Which was terrific.

If there was another book I'd likely read it too.
(Confirmed there's another one)
There's enough in this one to justify reading another. It has a great construction of building up characters and world-building. I'd be fascinated to see if the second book included more conflict.

Copy recieved was a review copy.
My opinion is my own.

A fun read

I must admit that I was a bit irritated with just how helpless the main character was in the beginning, but that made her transformation even more satisfying. I find that it takes an especially talented author to evoke emotions and draw the reader into the story so completely. This author definitely has it.

Something unique

The title character is a socially awkward teenager, who is trying to get through high school, until one day she finds out that not only does she have special abilities, but those around her do too.
