For Nate, all good things have come with consequences, so he settled into a life of pain and solitude. Misunderstood and abandoned by friends and family, punishments, denial, and control are his only companions. When an unexpected olive branch arrives, Nate must decide if he’d rather keep living in the past or reach for a future that might not be so bleak. One thing he never expects, however, is to fall at the feet of a doe-eyed angel when he’s forced to face his greatest trigger.

After being teased throughout high school, Ethan has found it difficult to build deep relationships as an adult. When he’s offered a side job for much-needed cash and experience on his résumé, Ethan can hardly believe his luck. Unbeknown to him, though, the side job drops a man in crisis at his feet. Ethan’s inclinations toward introversion and fear are tested when all of his instincts scream that he needs to do what he can to help the suffering man.

What begins as an offer of comfort and reassurance, becomes a tentative friendship. But, can Nate lower his guard enough to let the angel in? Is maintaining control worth reliving his trauma? Nate must find the fortitude to stay with the doe-eyed man despite the fear that consequences lurk around every corner.

As Ethan’s feelings for Nate evolve, he finds himself torn between wanting more and wanting to protect himself. Nate is a runner. Can Ethan allow himself to hope for more than friendship when he knows Nate will always have one foot out the door? Will Ethan find the strength to heal and help Nate do the same? Ethan must learn to trust again, even if the fear of hurt looms overhead.

***Trigger warning: Self-harm. Mild thoughts and discussions of suicide.

First off, here's another for my top twenty of 2020. Nathan, I salute you and all that you went through and the fight you fought. I won't lie, I cried right alongside this character, feeling his hurt and his pain. I cheered his positives and the way he opened up and found himself. Kudos to Ethan for being the rock that Nathan needed. As hard as it was, he was determined to bring Nathan into the light. I liked Charlie and Aero. But I loved Nathan and Ethan.

What Nathan went through so many of us have experienced in different forms. It is easy to say, it's not worth it to feel that way. Get some help. It gets better. But when your brain is saying one thing and you're lost, the ease is hard. Having true, valued friends and family can make the difference. Finding someone trustworthy to talk to is needed. And getting professional help is something that could be the difference between life and death. Nathan was lucky. He still had the fight in him, even if he was only half alive.

This book have many triggers and I was warned forehand. I too struggle with depression and anxiety and I have found my triggers and the means to fight them. It is not easy living day to day. But with a supportive partner, it makes it better. Like Nathan, it does get better.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.

When I saw that Nate/Nathan was getting his own book, I couldn't imagine how Morgan would give him redemption, but she delivered. She took a guy we hated and not only did she give us a great story, but we actually felt empathy for him and cheered for him to get a better life and to find love.
His hidden life and love cost him everything. His twisted way of thinking and self loathing caused him years of pain and suffering, something that could have been avoided if he hadn't hate himself and all involved, blaming everyone including, not just him. Redemption came in the form of Ethan. His kindness, compassion and understanding helped to let Nate see the light and want to be better. It's a wonderful love story that needed to be told.

Kudos to Morgan Mason

Most people like to push any mental health issues under the carpet in the dark where they can’t be seen despite the large number of people who suffer from depression related problems. They certainly don’t write books where one of the two leading characters suffers in this manner. Morgan Mason has broken this mold. Not only that she has done so, she’s done it in a sensitive and compassionate way. This love story reveals what those of us who have been through that long dark tunnel have learnt. There is a light at the end of it once you start to look for it. There is a time to live. Well done Morgan. This book is inspirational.

This was an amazing hurt/comfort book. Nate's story was heart breaking, and it was beautiful seeing how Ethan helped him. This is book 2 in the series and can be read as a standalone, since Morgan does an incredible job of explaining all the pertinent information, but I highly recommend reading book 1 first. Many characters are recurring, and you get a better feel for the story if you read the books in order. I'm excited for book 3!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.

I was given an advance copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
Oh, this book! Nate is a pained soul who I wasn’t thrilled with from book 1, “Times Yet to Come.” When he meets Ethan, a true caretaker, the two of them drew me in. This story had so many moments that broke my heart, but it was filled with the light Ethan had to share. I loved this story, and I heartily recommend it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
