When Dillon Jackson was called upon by the British army in 1940, national service and fighting for your country wasn't something you could ever escape by law. Yes, Dillon signed up and did become a soldier. Yes, Dillon then went AWOL and returned to his parents house in London to hide away. What Private Dillon Jackson didn't bank on though, was how a single kiss from a young woman called Muriel one day, would encourage a different kind of bomb to drop into his life.
An adult comedy, where love in war time London was already hard enough, yet almost impossible for a young man just trying to stay out of trouble and not shoot anyone.
He's from the 40s during the London blitz, she's from modern times, they somehow meet during a time travel mishap, then slowly fall in love. Every single chapter gives you something to smile at, in a story where the teen from the 40s wants to live in modern times, then the young woman from modern times thinks she can take on Hitler, then them both travelling backwards and forwards missing each-other like they should do anyway. It's a love story with a very smutty twist.
It was as though he was trying to write a beautiful love story one minute, a story about the war the next, mixed it all together, added some time travel magic, then came out with something hilarious.
My grandparents served in the war, so I was very happy to read a book like this, that didn't paint a wartime picture like most publications tend to do. Although this story did cover the war and use old fashioned terms and saying during the unfolding of it, I was pleasantly surprised to find out it focused more on a time travelling love story than anything else.
Another book from Jimmy Tudeski, based on an area I know so well. This one has it all. It's funny, it's a little bit of a love story, and a little quirky too. Despite it being too short in my eyes, it was very enjoyable.
He hates the 40s, she hates current day England. He wants to be in her world, she wants to be in his world. When they do finally change over, they fall in love, where it is then impossible for them to be together, yet somehow they must find a way.
I'm far too young to know anything about the war, but this book gives you a taste of what it must have been like growing up in London in the 40's. Not only has the author taken a very delicate subject, but he's made the story very witty too. A true love story, with a little time travel thrown in too. I really enjoyed it.
Is it a romance? Is it a comedy? Is it science fiction? Another mix of many different pleasurable things from an author I've read before, where time travel, history, romance and adult comedy all gel together unlike they should.
A quick and funny novel about a solider from the Blitz somehow hooking up with a woman from the future, then taking her back to the past with him to try and win the war.
I have read a few controversial love stories from this author now, but this one is pretty special. It takes on the concept of the old TV programme "Goodnight Sweetheart" then strangely bringing it up to date, staying based in the 1940s. It's about a girl in todays world, meeting a boy from the war, him not being scared of the problems we often face, then her not being scared of the war in his world either. Whilst he runs for cover from the German's, she wants to visit and fight his fight, hating the world she lives in. Whilst she runs form cover from today's problems, he thinks it's all easier than being shot at by the German's. It's a story about two people needing to switch places, then the confusion it brings when they finally fall in love, yet can't ever be together.
For a Jimmy Tudeski comedy, it's different. It's still written in his famous comical way (smut and all) but I really enjoyed this book.
I love anything war related, or from the 40s and 50s, so was delighted when I heard about this book coming out. After reading it, I couldn't help making a comparison between this and "Goodnight Sweetheart". Same concept, stronger characters, with an extra few twists. This book is pretty clever, because despite it being a straight forward time travel comedy, Tudeski worded it so the Dillon would be terrified of his word in the 1940s, then somehow be brave in the modern world, whereas the female character is petrified of her modern day world, yet finds it easier heading back to the second world war and taking on the German's. It cleverly makes you think - What world would be scarier, the present or the past?
What it's nice to do sometimes is step away from your own reading genre and try something new for a change. This book wouldn't normally be read by someone like me, but I'm pretty glad I give it a try. What I thought was going to be a story thickened with history and misery, turned into somewhat of a love story between two people from different worlds. It's smutty, it's funny and it was highly enjoyable.
I honestly thought I was going to be reading a tacky comedy about the war in which I wouldn't have liked it. Turns out this book is only set in the 1940s, where it focuses more on a romance between Mila and Dillon, where she's from the future, he's from the past, yet somehow their paths have crossed over.
This book tells the story of seventeen year old Dillon Jackson and how after being called up to fight for the British army during WW2, he decided to hide away inside his parents house and run away from the war instead. It's is quite a clever little book, that covers the war, romance and comedy.
What was supposed to be a book about the war, turned out to be a whirlwind romance between a young couple. Watch out for the gift at the end and how the story finishes, yet keeps you thinking and guessing for hours afterwards.
After reading a few books from Tudeski's mucky collection, I thought I knew what to expect opening this one, but this one surprised me quite a bit. Not the same swear happy content, based more on romance than adult comedy, which had the most sweetest ending.
outstanding little comedy, perfectly describes what it was like during the war, then how todays world would certain the older generation, then the 40s would shove a rocket up the backside of the young today. Well written, nice idea.
A war time comedy set in London, where someone from the future travels back in time, a soldier from the 40s heads to the future, they somehow cross paths, yet can never comically get it on. A short story with great potential, and outstanding character development.
I love anything old fashioned or history related, so to add them with a touch of Jimmy comedy, priceless. A wonderful little love story, that wasn't possible, yet somehow took place.
I thought this was going to be a book about the war and the Blitz, but it nicely turned out to be a time travel love story with belly laugh characters inside instead.
Not the book about the war I thought it was going to be, but a little comedy where the main female character likes to misbehave and take risks. Tasteful, funny and entertaining.
This was not what I thought it would be. Instead a saucy wee romance where two people hop in and out of time zones to fall in love and help each other in their hour of need.
