Magnus from Falling Kingdoms and Maddox from A Book of Spirits and Thieves are on an epic quest through time in this series-bridging novella.

In a garden of ancient ruins on the cliffs of Limeros, Prince Magnus comes face-to-face with a witch. The old woman incapacitates him with a spell, presses a single object into his hand—an obsidian blade—and tells him to bring it to a woman named Samara before the sun sets and his portal home closes forever.

A flash of dark magic transports Magnus back in time to a Mytica he’s only heard about in storybooks. Lost in this foreign land, Magnus sets out to find Samara. But a chance encounter with the rumored Witch Boy derails his journey. Magnus saves Maddox from a beating, but the cruel Livius is now on their tail. The sun is starting to set. Time is running out. Both boys must fight for their lives.

Follow legendary bad boy Magnus and the enigmatic Maddox as their worlds collide in this high-stakes adventure.

Morgan Rhodes lives in Ontario, Canada. As a child, she always wanted to be a princess -- the kind that knows how to wield a sharp sword to help save both kingdoms and princes from fire-breathing dragons and dark wizards. Instead, she became a writer, which is just as good and much less dangerous. Along with writing, Morgan enjoys photography, travel, reality TV, and is an extremely picky, yet voracious reader of all kinds of books. Under another pen name, she’s a national bestselling author of many paranormal novels. Falling Kingdoms is her first high fantasy.

Yey, another Magnus novella! His interactions with Maddox from Spirit and Thieves was fun to read. Wish it was longer tho because I just can't get enough of this bad boy.

"I know that you feel. I know that you hurt. I know that you could be brave if you'd allow yourself the chance."

There are a few things this short story managed to do for me. . .
1. I'm convinced I need a full book of only Magnus's POV.
2. I need to read the Spirits and Thieves series.
3. I love Prince Magnus Lukas Damora, oh wait I knew that already.
4. MAGNEO FOREVER (knew this already also)
"So many shadows to navigate in the gathering darkness. But I see a light - a golden light as bright as the sun that you will be drawn to without a choice. You will resist, but you will fail. Be careful, though. Moths are also drawn to flames."
5. Need more of Magnus and Maddox together, tbh.
"Clearly, I have no friends. And, based on the short time I've known you, I'm in serious doubt that you have any either."
"Clearly."

Just brilliant.

Why did this take me so long wtf it's legit 80 pages long

Anyway this was amazing, as I'd thought it would be. This series is SO amazing and inspires me so much you have no idea. I just love the magic, the aspect of the world, the elementia magic. It's just all so cool.

Also my favourite prince Magnus was utterly superb in this. Loved him.

But I see a light, a golden light as bright as the sun that you will be drawn to without a choice. You will resist, but you will fail. Be careful, though. Moths are also drawn to flames.

The good things about it?
1. A 16yo Magnus
2. Magnus making a friend
3. Magneo hint

Obsidian Blade was a quick little read that combines Morgan Rhodes Falling Kingdoms and Spirits and Thieves series! Magnus meets Maddox, if you will! It’s been a long time since I read A Book of Spirits and Thieves and can’t quite remember it much. But I do vaguely recall Maddox, but only vaguely, sadly. I hope to be reading the next book in that series somewhat soon.

Anyway, in this story, Magnus is thrust back in time, to Maddox’s time, in order to deliver an obsidian blade to a witch. Magnus is going to have to find some help for this one, which as you know, Magnus isn’t one to ask for help.

This story takes place before Falling Kingdoms I think, Magnus is sixteen…and though I can’t remember his age currently I know it’s older than that. Even if by a year. So it was sort of odd to see him being his old self. But even then, he was still that boy just wanting to find somewhere to belong and have someone care about him. He’s cold in order to keep himself from being hurt further.

This was definitely a short read of 50 some odd pages (according to my Kindle) but it was still a fun little read! I love crossovers and I hadn’t really expected to see one with these two series since they are several hundred years apart time wise. So it was definitely a fun little read. I definitely think it’s a crossover kind of read that is just for enjoyment, because I am not really seeing anything that will serve a purpose in the Falling Kingdoms world, as for the Spirts and Thieves world, that will remain to be seen until I get myself reacquainted with that world! Definitely a must read for fans of both these series!

Magnus!

This was so amazing! I loved it. Magnus and Maddox together on a mini adventure did things to mu heart. The story was short and sweet but it was also filled with action and excitement. I'm that one moment, that one day, we got to see a change in Magnus that I wish he could have kept with him.

Now the only thing left to ask is will we ever see the witch and get obsidian blade again? Will Magnus or Maddox ever remember meeting each other?

So many feels! I need December to come already!

“So much pain,” Samara said, nodding, as if she hadn’t heard a word he said. “So many shadows to navigate in the gathering darkness. But I see a light—a golden light as bright as the sun that you will be drawn to without a choice. You will resist, but you will fail. Be careful, though. Moths are also drawn to
flames”

Oh good god....what was life before this series? SO GOOD. I am lovvvvvving these new characters were meeting in these novellas and I hope we can see more of them in future books! There's so much mystery behind this story and I can't get enough. Definitely would recommend reading this if you've read The Falling Kingdom series and/or plan to!

Very short but an excellent addition to the falling kingdoms/spirit and thieves series of books. This one actually brings two of the main characters in those similar but separate story arcs (Magnus and Maddox) together. Can't argue with that.

It all happens very fast but the story builds and ends well.

The characters also fit well together and it is cool to see them.together.

It also has a lot of references to the other books in the series that we are meant to pick up on (Star Wars made this into an art form) and I love it when other books, etc do it.

A great little addition to the authors world and meant as a precursor to the next falling kingdoms book and the next thieves and spirts one. Can't wait.

Sebuah novella, prekuel siri novel 'Falling Kingdom', bergenre high fantasy (sword and sorcery). Novella ni menghubungkan siri 'Falling Kingdom' dengan siri 'A Book of Spirits and Thieves' (spin-off siri 'Falling Kingdom') yg mengambil tempat di lokasi yg sama (Mystica), tapi pada timeline yg berbeza. Pendek jer cerita ni, boleh baca sekali lalu. Tapi plotnya menarik utk sesiapa yg follow kedua2 siri ni.

A Book of Spirits and Thieves).

* Siri 'A Book of Spirits and Thieves' tergantung di buku kedua. Buku ketiga telah dibatalkan penerbitannya. Jadi x direkomen unk beli buku hard copy siri ni...

"My money," Magnus retorted. "After all, I stole it."

Yeah, I’d pretty much read anything that has Magnus as a main character. And this was the perfect timing as I’ve been waiting for Crystal Storm for way too long and I desperately needed some Falling Kingdom magic!

So, what to say about this novella?
Magnus was fantastic (but nothing new about that); the story was captivating (but nothing new about that either); and I liked how the characters from Morgan Rhodes’ two series get together and got all tangled up.

Easy, and even funny, read.

"Then Magnus frowned. ‘Did you just call me your friend?’
‘Did I?’ ‘You did. I heard you’ ‘My mistake.’ ‘I would say so.’"

I was really excited to read this novella, as Magnus is one of my favourite characters. However, I don't feel like this short story gave me any more information, or provided any more character development than what we already have and because of this I was disappointed. Other novellas I have read in other series, provide these really interesting back stories that end up being important for the rest of the series, but this one I could have done without.

5 Magnus and Maddox should have a book together stars

16 year old Magnus is traveling in northern Limeros, with his father. As the royal party looks around for a new temple to worship their goddess Valoria, Magnus gets a little sidetracked away from the group. This old women comes to tell Magnus he has a quest with an obsidian blade and must go back in time to find a women name Samara Balto. Before Magnus can object, he is thrust in this time were it seems he is 100 years back. While trying to find this women he runs into familiar characters that we have read from before. In the 6 chapters of this eBook, Magnus goes on a little adventure with a witch boy, who might make him see and believe the world in a different light.

I really enjoyed this short story because, as I'm waiting for the two final books in each series these two boys are involved in, I get to hear about this adventure they might never have again. The friendship between these two boys warms my heart because, as the start of every friendship, people are weary of each other. As you get to know the person you help them grow in many ways you didn't know. Magnus gives Maddox the courage to stand up to his guardian Livius, to protect his pride and family while also standing up for himself. One things I liked about the two boys is that they have very similar personalities but are also very different at the same time. They complement each other in so many different ways and I hope they cross path in the future or even have their own book together. (I'm hinting at a future book Mrs. Rhodes).

"I know that you feel. I know that you hurt. I know that you could be brave if you'd allow yourself the chance."
"So many shadows to navigate in the gathering darkness. But I see a light - a golden light as bright as the sun that you will be drawn to without a choice. You will resist, but you will fail. Be careful, though. Moths are also drawn to flames."

This was so high stakes for it to be so short! I love the Falling Kingdoms universe and I plan on rereading the series. It's my favorite series of all time! God bless Morgan Rhodes for such a great series with great characters. Although I wished she had completed the series with Maddox.
