And I am so scared because of his future...

I just can't believe that he is going to destroy everything! :'( Ash, you're right!
We can always change our future! You and Meghan have to stay strong because you're amazing and Kierran will be too if the world is fair...

Meghan and Ash's UNBORN CHILD?

Excuse me while I try to breathe.

Photobucket

Edit (11/8/12):
Reading this made me realize how much I've missed Ash and Meghan. They're just so perfect together. Gahh. Also, Kagawa's wonderfully creative mind strikes again. I really liked that transition part where Meghan enters the Dream Pool, and of course the Wishing Tree was lots of fun too (big snakes yay)! The Lost Prince was kind of ehhh for me, since I didn't really like reading from Ethan's POV. It makes me wonder what it would be like to see something from Kierran's eyes, since he's the special one with three powers and whatnot. I'm all nostalgic, now. I'll have to go back and read that quote again where Ash pledges his undying loyalty to Meghan.

"My name is Ashallyn'darkmyr Tallyn, third son of the Unseelie Court...Let it be known--from this day forth, I vow to protect Meghan Chase, daughter of the Summer King, with my sword, my honor, and my life. Her desires are mine. Her wishes are mine. Should even the world stand against her, my blade will be at her side. And should it fail to protect her, let my own existence be forfeit. This I swear, on my honor, my True Name, and my life. From this day on..." His voice went even softer, but I still heard it as though he whispered it into my ear. "I am yours.”

Post-Reading:
For once, I'm speechless. I have nothing to say about this book. If you could see my facial expressions and hear how fast my heart was beating, then you'd know exactly what I thought of it. But I'm just going to leave a little letter here to Julie Kagawa:

Dear Julie,

Thank you. Thank you for letting me experience one last adventure with some of my favourite characters ever written. Thank you for taking the time to write a short story that shows a glimpse into what occurred next. Thank you for making me feel all those amazing emotions again that I had felt while reading the Iron Fey series. Thank you for introducing me to a new future character, one that I know I'll end up loving just as much as these characters.

But most of all, thank you for continuing to write even more stories in this fantastic world that you have created. I have no doubt that the new series, as well as your other future works, will be just as epic as the Iron Fey series. Because you are the only author who writes exactly the kind of books I love to get lost in. Seriously. I don't know what I would do if you ever stopped.

So, again, thank you. I shall go cry in a dark corner somewhere now.

Forever a fangirl of yours,
Arooj.

“Well,” Puck said cheerfully, forcing a rather pained smile, “it's just like old times, isn't it? You, me, ice-boy, the future of the Nevernever hanging in the balance…we just have to wait for Furball to show up and then it’ll be perfect.” “He is already here, Goodfellow,” came a familiar voice behind us, sounding bored and offended all at once. “Where he has been for much of the conversation, waiting for you to see past the end of your nose.” “Yep.” Puck sighed as we all turned to face Grimalkin. “Just like old times.”

Please hold I'm currently freaking out.

Seriously, why do these novellas just keep shoving so much god damn cuteness in my face?!?
So much Ash and Meghan in this novella.
The unborn child.
This novella takes you on like a kiddy version roller coaster of emotions. I loved the whole damn ride. I ate all of these novellas up like a starved child. This was the perfect ending for Ash and Meghan. I needed it. Everyone needed it. THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDED IT.

Everyone needs to go read this series. Like, right now.

Mortals! Yes, I am talking to you as a mortal myself! As someone who completed the journey to Nevernever, I have a warning to make:
- Those who have read this may know everything and nothing about The Lost Prince.
- Those who are interested in completing this journey and start a new one should see the contents of this book.
- Those who do not wish to venture further into Nevernever, should never read the book.
- And those who are interested in the future of The Lost Prince, should read the book when they complete the journey of the Prince, lest you know everything.

You have been warned.

“So, what's the big emergency, princess? You and ice-boy look fine to me, and the Nevernever isn't crumbling around us. What's going on?"
"I'm pregnant, Puck," I said quietly, and watched his eyebrows shoot into his hair.

Wow, making warnings is not as easy as it sounds! Takes a lot of time and energy to declare one. Anyway, let’s move on.

“Well,” Puck said cheerfully, forcing a rather pained smile, “it’s just like old times, isn’t it? You, me, ice-boy, the future of the Nevernever hanging in the balance…we just have to wait for Furball to show up and then it’ll be perfect.” “He is already here, Goodfellow,” came a familiar voice behind us, sounding bored and offended all at once. “Where he has been for much of the conversation, waiting for you to see past the end of your nose.” “Yep.” Puck sighed as we all turned to face Grimalkin. “Just like old times.”

I have to say that I really missed Meghan. Especially now since she finally grew up and is not that naïve or weak as before. I am almost proud at her!

“I'm sorry. But I am the Iron Queen, and you are in my way.”

Ash ……. Sigh…. I still like him (dammit) even after all he did

“Sorry to wake you, but we have to be somewhere soon, remember?"
Ash grunted and, to my surprise, shifted to his back and put the pillow over his head. "I don't suppose I could convince you to go without me," he groaned, his voice muffled beneath the fabric. "Tell Mab I've been eaten by a manticore or something?”

Why didn't you get eaten T_T

Puck … I missed him so much and especially his awesome sarcasm :D

“If we all end up as llamas, I’m going to spend the rest of my life following you around saying ‘I told you so’ in llama-ese.”

The journey may have ended for Meghan, Ash & Puck, but the new journey begins with the Call of the Forgotten. Venture in it if you are ready!

SO MUCH ASH AND MEGHAN CUTENESS!!!! This book is too brilliant to put into words - all those sobbing episodes you all had at the end of Iron Knight when you realised that yes, Ash was back, but no, you wouldn't get to read more about him and his smexy self...they were all worth it!! Because Julie has come back with a story that is full of adventure, humour, Puck-ness (:D), foreboding and of course LOVE.

If you weren't Team Ash before, prepared to be now. Personally, I'm fence-sitting...I love Puck and his wicked one-liners far too much to abandon ship!! As for Grim...he's still just as cryptic and just as spineless. Some things never change :)

This was the epilogue fans deserved of Ash and Meghan. We see our favourite couple go on one last adventure with Puck and Grimalkin about the future of Ash and Meghan's family and it was great to read. It also answers a lot of questions I had during the Lost Prince, so I kinda wish I'd read this first! However I'm going to be way more informed for The Iron Traitor now.

Now I know as much as I knew before reading this.
Perhaps if I read it before starting the spin-off series, it would be useful to find out about prophecy, but since I only have The Iron Warrior to finish the series, I am officially late for the train.

My heart is bursting with happiness. My eyes are wet with tears. I am speechless. I am literally dancing with joy. All I could think was "OMG!" And all I could feel was that I just freaking love Ash and Meghan and Oh Lord, Puck and Grim and everyone so damn much. -starts to cry hysterically.

I swear, I am so emotionally attached to this book. This is the only series ever, to make me feel in this way. And I just love Julie Kagawa for writing this series in the first place. Oh maaan. I started to cry when she just wrote the note to the readers.
The book was short, yet wonderful and I was so happy to get Megan's POV and see the other characters once again and actually see Ash's and Puck's reaction when they came to know that Megan is Pregnant. But one Iron Fey fan knows what secret is revealed and that its related to "The Lost Prince" second book, "The Traitor son."
Anyway, they got their happily ever after. No more Iron Fey books.
I mean, THIS IS IT. ITS OVER. THE END. of the Iron Fey series.

I just hope I get to see Puck have a girlfriend-wife and have an awesome family. And have little Pucks... then my life is complete.

So yet another short story in the world of the Iron Fey. This one takes place after the 4th book. Make sure you read the 4 books prior other wise there are many many spoilers.

Of the short stories I found this one to be the most pointless.

Basically the Oracle shows up and says I have a prophecy for you, come find me. And we go on another adventure with Meghan, Ash, Puck, & Grim. (Gang's all here!), but there is so little adventure.

Eventually Meghan receives the prophecy and decides wahwah the future can change whatever and they shrug and go on. I understand that it is setting up plot lines for the next trio of books but ugh, it was really a non-event. Feel free to skip it.

Just when I was finally okay with letting these characters go, I read Iron Prophecy and all I want is to read about them even more!
But at last, Ash, Meghan and Puck's story is done and I'm excited about Ethan's series so this was a brilliant treat!
Loved!

"Well," Puck said cheerfully, forcing a rather pained smile, "it's just like old times, isn't it? You, me, ice-boy, the future of the Nevernever hanging in the balance...we just have to wait for Furball to show up and then it'll be perfect."

"Yep." Puck sighed as we all turned to face Grimalkin. "Just like old times."

An absolutely perfect and unforgettable ending to the Iron Fey series. There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said-I've gushed about Prince Ash so much that I don't think my friends could stand to hear his name one more time without gagging.....but what can I say? He is absolute perfection, the top of the top and the best of the best of book boyfriends...and he is absolute perfection.

"I am yours to command, my queen," he whispered, making my heart clench in complete, helpless love. "I will obey, even if you order me to cut out my own heart. Even if you order me to the hell that is the Winter Court Elysium."

This novella didn't teach me anything new about the fey world and it most certainly did not open any new doors or add any more problems that our favorite little trio would need to solve...but what it DID do was open up the door to the new spin-off series about Meghan's little brother and, gasp, her son. It gave us one last little adventure about all our of our favorite characters and let us see how adorable their real relationship is: no more angst, no more forbidden love. Just the two of them living their hard-earned lives together and enjoying being in each other's presence-with no more drama.

It reminded me of our first dance together, my first Elysium, when I'd seen the cold, dangerous son of Queen Mab up close for the first time and was completely lost. Call it fate, destiny or just blatant hardheadedness on both our parts, from that moment on, there was no turning back.

Buuuuuuutttt Kagawa doesn't ever exit quietly. Though Meghan and Ash are within each other's arms, where they want to be, a certain prophecy will change their lives forever. I won't spoil what it is, though I think I saw the prophecy at least three times on other reviews and it might be on the synopsis, but it involves Meghan's pregnancy....the pregnancy that she isn't even aware of. This is great news right? Or is it the ultimate demise of all of the Nevernever?

Sighing, he lowered his head, his lips brushing my ear. "I've never been able to stop you, my queen," he murmured, "but I do want you to know that I might be a little overprotective tonight. These are your people, so that makes them mine as well, but my first and only duty is to you. Always."

I'm sad to see these characters go: I think Ash has started to become one of my all time favorite characters. He is fierce, he is protective, he is loyal, he is without a doubt one of my top book boyfriends now. And as I said before, I am beyond sad that these people are moving on while I sit and crave for more of their banter and adoration-but I feel like this was the perfect send-off for me. It was the perfect end to Ash and Meghan's tremulous journey and it was an amazing look at what their life has become. And now, it's time to pass the torch. It's time to let Ethan, her younger brother, take the reigns and help his sister out-it's his turn to save the world, and it's his turn to find love and become apart of the Fey world again...whether he wants to or not.

"How are you doing this?" I continued, frowning at him. "And if you say 'I am a cat,' I swear I will throw you off this balcony."

I SHOULD’VE SEEN THAT COMING.

[REVIEW]

I get why this book is necessary to read before reading The Call of the Forgotten. When I first started reading this, I thought it was just going to be about Ash and Meghan trying to find out the future of their unborn child. While that was the main plot, we also got some hints about Ethan being an important factor in the child’s future. I’m actually even MORE interested to read The Call of the Forgotten now, because it’s not just a separate series, it’s actually connected to this prophecy.

MY CRITIQUES:

•For the most part, Meghan’s pregnancy actually worked with the plot (and we all know how hated the pregnancy trope is). The only thing I was weirded out by was how young Meghan still was. She never explicitly said how old she was, but she’s definitely not thirty—most likely less than twenty-five, too.

•I wanted MORE conflicted feelings with Meghan choosing whether or not to give up her child. When it was revealed that her child would kill Ethan, I thought this would DEFINITELY lead her to becoming unsure what to decide. Your unborn child versus your brother who you haven’t seen in forever? That would be SO HARD to choose between! However, she only got a couple of seconds to reconsider before she said no and started fighting the Oracle. I needed MORE. MORE buildup. MORE uncertainty.

•Why the heck did Ash not tell Meghan more about the things he did and saw in The Iron Knight? For example, he didn’t tell Meghan that he’d seduced and broke a girl’s heart. I don’t care if he’s ashamed, that is not something you should hide from the person you love. Meghan deserved to know before she went off and married him.

ADDITIONALLY, the whole possibility that his and Meghan’s child could destroy everything? He REALLY didn’t communicate all of those details??? He’s starting to sound suspiciously like a certain fae in ACOSF…

WHAT I LIKED:

•I will never thank Grim and Puck enough for being the saving graces in this series. They never fail to make me laugh.

•We had some great action scenes! And I liked that Meghan actually took part rather than stand idly by and watch. Even though Ash asked her not to, she still did. Way to go, Meghan!!!

•LISTEN, I get annoyed with the pregnancy trope as the next person. But I will say that this worked because there WAS some buildup to it in The Iron Knight. Ash WAS warned that if he let himself receive a soul, his child would bring destruction. It WAS foreshadowed in The Iron King that something Meghan would carry would only bring grief. So I’ll give Kagawa points for that.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Overall, this was a solid bridge from The Iron King to The Lost Prince. DEFINITELY recommend reading this before starting The Call of the Forgotten!

I loved this! I was so happy to have everyone back together that I had to try really hard to hold in a squeal while I was reading (it was the middle of the night and my husband was sleeping).

"Well," Puck said cheerfully, forcing a rather pained smile, "it's just like old times, isn't it? You, me, ice-boy, the future of the Nevernever hanging in the balance... we just have to wait for the Furball to show up and then it'll be perfect."
"He is already here, Goodfellow," came a familiar voice behind us, sounding bored and offended all at once. "Where he has been for much of the conversation, waiting for you to see past the end of your nose."
"Yep." Puck sighed as we all turned to face Grimalkin. "Just like old times."

I didnt expect this to end as it did. It ended abruptly and I guess the prophecy was left to be dealt with in Call of the Forgotten. It really worries me, especially now that I know the title of book #2. I really hope things work out ok, but I havent even read The Lost Prince so I dont really know what I am talking about. :p

I really loved how this gave us so much insight into the lives of Meghan and Ash, what it is like for them now, being married. I think there were 2 chapters of them at home, and then at Elysium, before they left for their most recent adventure, and I think that was my favourite part. Although, I dont like seeing Ash so submissive. I know Meghan is his queen, but she is also his wife, and he shouldnt have to be all "As you wish, my Queen" all the time. But this is still chock-full of Ash lines that will make you melt. :P

The first kiss

Yay! I love seeing Meghan and Ash together as a couple. I greatly missed Meghan in The Iron Knight and it is nice to see a part of the life that she and Ash have after being married. They are getting ready for the first Elysium that Meghan has gone to as the Iron Queen but she is feeling a little weird nausea and almost fainting….hmmm wonder what that could be.

The oracle that once asked for Ash and Meghan’s first born has bad news about their progeny and they must journey to her for the answers to their future. Again with Grimalkin and Puck we are off for another little adventure.
How are you doing this?” I continued, frowning at him. “And if you say ‘I am a cat,’ I swear I will throw you off this balcony.”

I loved seeing the new Ash. Sure he will always be Ice-Boy but he is a little more human now he has a soul. Plus without having to always watch his back the way he did at the winter court he had become the best version of himself and there were a lot of tender moments between him and Meghan (I eat that sappy girl stuff up) I’m really happy that I took the time to read this.

This is great set up for the new series and the troubles that Ethan and Meghan’s son could cause to the world and to Faery. I look forward to reading tales of their adventures and now I can see why some of the things I read in the Forgotten Prince happened the way they did. I probably should have read this one first and I would have better understood a few looks and ideas that weren’t clear in the first book of the new series. But I’m all in now.

This is a great read with equal parts humor/tenderness/adventure but it should probably be read before starting the new series beginning with The Forgotten Prince.
