Update log : Updated skill priority and added character’s mechanism.
Ben equipped with for the fight with role. Ben is one of the A Rank characters in Zenless Zone Zero.
Ben Builds are included in this guide, you can jump to Ben Build Here.
Ben possesses high survivability due to his unique mechanic of blocking all attacks and being immune to them. In the Zenless Zone Zero 1.0 version, Ben is the only support character with a defensive focus on survival. The blocking mechanic has a lenient activation window, allowing Ben to block attacks even if the defensive action is not fully completed, as long as it occurs during his Special Skill activation. Once the block is initiated, holding the attention button maintains the defensive stance, and pressing the Special Skill button triggers a counterattack. When the Ex Special Skill is activated, the block counterattack becomes even stronger and grants a shield based on Ben’s own defense power.
Ben has a special connection mechanic with Koleda, but it doesn’t have a significant impact on Ben himself. The strong bond between them only alters Koleda’s gameplay. Regardless of the playstyle, Ben can still occupy a valuable position in supporting Koleda.
In the early stages, facing strong enemies or challenging levels, Ben’s blocking mechanic greatly enhances the team’s survivability. However, in the later stages of the game, as the monster’s health increases, the difficulty also rises. Players will need to make choices between DPS and survivability in team composition, which may result in Ben being excluded from the team.

Regarding A-grade W-engines, Big Cylinder is currently the most suitable W-engine for Ben. It provides a substantial amount of DEF, and its active effect causes the next attack to deal additional damage equal to 600% of the user’s DEF when the user is hit by an enemy, and this attack is guaranteed to critically hit. This can be triggered after Ben blocks an attack. Bunny Band also provides a substantial amount of DEF, but its active effect is not very useful for Ben. Spring Embrace can be used for support, as it increases Energy Regen for teammates, but its second stat is ATK, which is a drawback.
In the early stages of the game, you can use [Identity] Base as transitional option.

Sub Stats
4 pcs Swing Jazz can maximize the team’s burst DMG during the Daze period. It’s suggested to farm the 4 pcs Swing Jazz first to enhance the support ability of Ben. For the remaining slots, you can use 2 pcs Soul Rock to increase the shield amount.
For main stats, DEF% are suggested for Slot 4 and Slot 5, which can increase the amount of shield. Energy Regen is suggested for Slot 6 to ensure sufficient energy for the Ex Special follow-up attack, thereby increasing the team’s shield coverage.
For sub-stats, DEF% & DEF should be in prior to maximize Ben’s support function, then consider damage-oriented sub-stats such as Crit Rate, CRIT DMG, and ATK%.
Burst
Stun
Survive
The combination of Koleda and Ben is a core, as the overall boost from coordinated attacks is incredibly significant for Koleda.
For the remaining slot, we choose Soldier 11 to supplement the team’s DMG output, creating a all-rounded system with Daze, Burst, and Survival.
For Bangboo, choose Rocketboo to enhance the team’s Fire attribute accumulation efficiency, helping Soldier 11 consistently trigger her team passive and the 4 pcs Inferno Metal set bonus during the Daze period.
When Koleda is on-field and lacks the energy to release the next EX Special, you can switch to Ben at the end of the Basic Attack. After switching, Ben should use a Basic Attack for animation-cancel and then perform the first two stages of his Ex Special if he has enough energy. If not, execute one or two Dash Attacks. While Ben is attacking, use Defensive Assist to switch back to Koleda and start a new rotation. After the enemy is Dazed, ensure Soldier 11’s Chain is the last to be used. During the Daze period, Soldier 11 can use her Ult and EX Special for Burst, followed by one or two sets of Fire Basic Attacks until the enemy recovers from Daze.
In this team, Soldier 11 isn’t closely tied to the other two characters except that she is a Fire attribute character, enabling her team passive, and her solo damage is sufficient. This is why we chose her. Additionally, there isn’t a better fit among the current Attack-type characters for the Koleda and Ben, making the Pure Fire team our top team recommendation.
If Soldier 11 isn’t available, we can choose Nekomata or Corin as alternatives. The overall damage of the team won’t significantly drop, with Nekomata leaning more towards AoE improvement and Corin towards single target. Overall, both characters are good substitutes for Soldier 11.
