Zhu Yuan Overview

Zhu Yuan is one of the Ether characters with role. Zhu Yuan is one of the S Rank characters in Zenless Zone Zero.

Zhu Yuan Build is included in this guide, you can jump to Zhu Yuan Build Here.

Zhu Yuan Mechanism

Zhu Yuan has two types of resources: Energy and Enhanced Shotshells (hereafter referred to as Shotshells). Zhu Yuan can obtain these Shotshells from the last two segments of his Basic attacks, Perfect Dodge, Quick Assist, Assist Follow-Up, Ultimate, and Chain. Shotshells are consumed when we hold down the normal attack button, dealing significant Ether damage.

Normal attacks are simple: tapping the attack button will launch them. Other than obtaining one layer of Shotshells from the last two segments of the normal attack, it has no other functions and is the least used attack type by Zhu Yuan. Next is the normal Charged Attack. When we hold down the attack button, the normal Charged Attack is activated. In this case, Zhu Yuan will pull out Shotshells for continuous shooting. As long as we hold down the attack button, the shooting will continue, which is our most basic operation during the burst phase. When using the Charged Attack, it consumes the current Shotshells and converts them into high Ether damage, turning the normal Charged Attack into an Ether Charged Attack.

However, if Zhu Yuan doesn’t have Shotshells, the Charged Attack will only deal physical damage, and the multiplier is very low. From the multiplier perspective, the Ether Charged Attack is about 2.5 times that of the physical Charged Attack, accounting for nearly 50% of the damage in Burst mode. In burst scenarios without the Ultimate, the Ether Charged Attack can even account for more than 65% of the damage. The action model for the Ether Charged Attack is divided into three segments: the first two segments can only fire one shot each, while the third segment can fire three shots. Each shot consumes one Shotshell, so Zhu Yuan’s ammunition consumption for a round of Charged Attack is five.

But the rotation is not fixed; we can change the number of shots fired in a round of Charged Attack by interspersing Dash Attacks at different points in the cycle. Zhu Yuan’s Dash Attack can be activated by holding the Basic Attack button while pressing the left or right keys. Dash Attacks are divided into Side Dash Attacks and Back Dash Attacks based on the direction. Only Side Dash Attacks can connect to the third segment of the Charged Attack.

When launching a Side Dash Attack, if Zhu Yuan has Shotshells, this move will also consume one layer of Shotshell and convert it into an Ether Charged Attack, with the same multiplier as the first segment of the Charged Attack. Therefore, we can intersperse Side Dash Attacks during the Charged Attack process to change the form of the cycle.

Zhu Yuan Best W-Engine

Zhu Yuan’s Signature W-engine – Riot Suppressor Mark VI has IT privilege, providing Crit Rate and Crit DMG which are important for a Burst DPS. However, need to reserve energy to use Ex Special during the Daze Period to gain Ether DMG Increase, enhancing Burst quality. If you have The Brimstone, it can serve as a secondary option, with stats equivalent to 92% of the Riot Suppressor Mark VI. The differences between other S Rank W-engines are not significant.

Among A Rank W-engines, the Starlight Engine performs exceptionally well due to its Combat ATK multiplier and surpasses the battle pass W-engine Cannon Rotor. It is an excellent alternative for those without an S Rank W-engine.

Currently, there are three Disk Drive sets available for Zhu Yuan: Chaotic Metal, Woodpecker Electro, and Hormone Punk. After calculating the effects of these three sets, the following conclusions were made:

Hormone Punk is the strongest when its effect is triggered during the Daze period. Its Combat Attack Multiplier is very valuable and has a high value, which leads to a high theoretical damage output for Hormone Punk. However, we still cannot consider it as the primary Disk Drive for Zhu Yuan because there is a significant hidden pitfall in its trigger mechanism. Since Zhu Yuan does not only appear during burst phases in a battle but also needs to perform assists to gain bullets, if not planned properly, the set bonus of Hormone Punk will trigger when the enemies are still in the imbalance phase. Once this issue occurs, it can easily lead to consecutive rounds where the Daze period lacks the set bonus effect of Hormone Punk.

Therefore, although Hormone Punk has high theoretical damage, it is extremely unstable. Excluding Hormone Punk, the remaining choices are Chaotic Metal and Woodpecker Electro.

For main stats, Slot 4’s best choices are Crit Rate, Crit DMG. Slot 5’s best choice is Ether DMG Bonus or ATK%, and Slot 6 can choose ATK%. For sub-stats, since Zhu Yuan’s signature W-engine and passive provide a considerable amount of Crit Rate and Crit DMG, the priority for Crits and ATK% is almost the same setup for other Main DPS agents. If Slot 4 carries Crit Rate or Crit DMG, then stack ATK% in the sub-stats. Conversely, if Slot 4 carries ATK%, then stack Crit in the sub-stats. Adding some PEN in the remaining sub-stats is also beneficial.

Zhu Yuan Team

Zhu Yuan Ether Team 1

In an Ether team, replacing Anby with Qingyi can result in a 80% damage increase. From the aspect of Daze efficiency, Qingyi is a superior replacement for Anby, offering higher flexibility and better stability. However, due to Anby’s synergy with the team, her Daze capability is not weak in Ether team, so the improvement Qingyi brings in Daze efficiency is not high. This 80% overall increase comes primarily from the boost provided by her Core passive. Zhu Yuan, as a burst-type strong attack character, concentrates 99% of his damage output during the Daze period, and Qingyi’s Core passive precisely amplifies the damage multiplier during Daze period, making them highly compatible. Therefore, for an Ether team, Qingyi is a crucial piece of the puzzle.

Zhu Yuan Ether Team Team 2

The best pairing for Zhu Yuan is Zhu Yuan, Anby, and Nicole. Nicole and Anby are pre-unlocked characters, making Zhu Yuan the most cost-effective character in the entire game.

So, what is the rationale of this team? Let’s start with Nicole. When we look at her team passive, we see that Nicole’s energy field provides a 40% DEF reduction and a 25% Ether DMG boost for the entire team. Although the duration of the buff is short, it is very suitable for Zhu Yuan, who has short-duration high bursts. Additionally, Nicole’s energy field can trigger Reactive Assist when it hits enemies, positioning Zhu Yuan immediately after Nicole. Using Assist allows Zhu Yuan to gain an Enhanced Shotshell. Nicole’s most powerful ability is her large-area enemy gathering, which is highly compatible with Zhu Yuan’s primarily small-area AOE attacks.

Now that we have discussed the best duo for the Ether team, Zhu Yuan’s output mode and Daze mechanism make him highly compatible with the team. As a result, the best third member for Zhu Yuan’s team is a character who can stun enemies efficiently, making Anby an optimal choice. Anby and Nicole belong to the same faction, so their team passives can be activated normally. Additionally, Anby’s output and breakthrough timing are more suitable for Zhu Yuan’s burst playstyle.

For Bangboo, Resonaboo is the best Bangboo for Zhuyuan. Resonaboo can provide Ether Anoamly Buildup which maximize the benefit of 4 pc Chaotic Metal. Another privilege of Resonaboo is the ability of pulling enmies together so that Zhu Yuan can more easily deal AoE damage.

The alternative is Devilboo. Devilboo can provide Ether Anomaly Buildup too. But Devilboo is the second choice as Devilboo is not able to grouping enemies together.

Zhu Yuan Ether Team 3

The composition of this team is similar to the first team, but it replaces Anby, the Stun role, with Koleda.

Koleda’s advantage is better Daze efficiency compared to Anby. Koleda can put enemies into the Daze period faster and more frequently, allowing Zhu Yuan to Burst more often. However, it should be noted that since there are no characters in this team with the same Attribute or Faction as Koleda, Koleda’s Additional Ability cannot be triggered in this team.

For Bangboo, the primary choice is Resonaboo, with Devilboo as the secondary choice.

Zhu Yuan Guide

The cool gunplay and heroic appearance make the charming Zhu Yuan, the “Dark Flower of the Theater,” the center of attention. But how strong is she really? How should the Yin Qing and Spoiler factions choose, and is she worth pulling for? This review will provide you with the answers. We are committed to creating the best guides on the internet, so we hope you can give us a like and support us. Each coin provides 10 experience points, and each share provides 5 experience points, which can help you level up and enable us to produce better content.

First, let’s start with a summary. Zhu Yuan is a powerful Ether attribute DPS character in the Criminal Police Task Force lineup. She mainly relies on her enhanced modern special attacks for elite output, possessing top-tier self-buffing and burst abilities, with excellent crowd control. However, the current issue is that her enhanced modern skills are difficult to sustain, her ammo depletes quickly, and her battlefield capability is quite poor. This makes Zhu Yuan unsuitable for fast-switch playstyles like Allen’s and better suited for exploiting imbalances and inflicting burst damage during periods of enemy vulnerability. Therefore, Zhu Yuan heavily relies on the support of a breaker to create an output environment. Fortunately, Zhu Yuan is quite versatile and can be paired with Lycaon and Cangjiao, Lycaon and Lina, or Coreda and Lucy. However, it is more recommended to pair her with the more affordable Anbi and Nicole. For support units, you can choose Resonance, Demon, or Butler-type support units. The four-piece Drive set options include the Mother Bird Electric Eagle and Hormone Punk, with the former being more stable and the latter having a higher ceiling. The recommended default is to use the Mother Bird Electric Eagle two-piece set, prioritizing Ether attribute damage and attack power as the main stats. Slot 4 should prioritize critical rate or critical damage, and Slot 5 should prioritize Ether attribute damage or attack power.

Next, let’s get into the details and discuss Zhu Yuan’s gameplay. To avoid confusion, we’ll start with a brief introduction to her skills before diving into the analysis. First is the core mechanism on both sides: When Zhu Yuan has ammo, her normal attacks will consume it and deal Ether damage, which is her primary means of output. The amount of ammo is displayed in the upper left corner below Zhu Yuan’s portrait, with a maximum of 9 rounds. Zhu Yuan can obtain ammo through Parry, Counter, enhanced special skills, combo skills, mid-level skills, and normal attacks. Parry only grants one ammo, while Counter, enhanced special skills, combo skills, and mid-level skills each grant three ammo. The ammo obtained from normal attacks is somewhat unique. When pressing the attack button briefly, Zhu Yuan alternates using a set of five pistol actions, where the last two hits, if they connect with the enemy, will each grant one ammo.

Next is the passive skill that enhances normal attacks. This allows Zhu Yuan to hold six rounds of ammo and provides a 20% damage boost for attacks that consume ammo. If the enemy is in a state of imbalance, it grants an additional 20% damage boost. This skill can be upgraded to not only increase base attack power and critical damage but also increase the damage boost. At max level, the damage boost is doubled. The additional ability requires the team to have support characters or characters with the same support to trigger, which increases Zhu Yuan’s critical rate by 30% for 10 seconds when she uses an enhanced special skill, combo skill, or ultimate skill, making this bonus very significant.

For those familiar with the mechanics, you can skip the next part. First, let’s talk about Parry: after successfully dodging an enemy’s attack, pressing the normal attack button will trigger Parry. Then there’s Counter: when the previous character is about to be hit, a yellow warning light appears, indicating that pressing the support button will trigger Counter or Parry. After that, pressing the normal attack button can trigger Counter. In practice, though, it’s important to manage support points because if you run out, pressing the support button will trigger Parry instead of Counter. Every time you connect a few times, you’ll gain one support point, and ultimate skills directly grant three support points. These mechanics allow Zhu Yuan to gain one or three layers of ammo.

Overall, Zhu Yuan is a character with great potential, especially when paired with the right team. If players can master her mechanics and choose the appropriate support units and Drive set, Zhu Yuan’s battlefield performance will be very strong. We hope this review provides you with valuable insights and helps you fully unleash Zhu Yuan’s potential in the game.

Other ZZZ Character Builds

Excellent single-target and AoE capabilities, unique enchantment damage-increasing mechanism. As the first limited character, Ellen is definitely a powerful all-rounder covering all output dimensions, currently the most versatile ice attribute main DPS. Compared to Regular Banner’s Attack Characters, Ellen has a relatively powerful stacking enchantment mechanism, and her main damage-dealing method does not consume energy, making her very flexible.

Pros

  • Highest DPS among all Attack characters.
  • Decent attack range and slight crowd control ability.
  • Main damage-dealing method does not consume energy.
  • Best team composition already formed.

Cons

  • Almost none.

Koleda is currently the character with the strongest burst Stun ability. She can easily push small enemies into an Daze state, continuously triggering QTEs for teammates. Therefore, Koleda is currently the fastest burst stun character.

Pros

  • Extremely strong burst Stun

Cons

  • Usually needs to team up with Ben, leading to fewer combinations
  • Lacks support capabilities compared to Lycaon

Lucy’s unique support mode, featuring a one-time activation semi-permanent auto-combat pig squad and attack boost support through hands-free skills, allows her to provide damage increase to teammates while also having her own damage output. She is an excellent versatile attack support for quick clears, unaffected by the environment or pairings. Lucy’s pig squad mechanism means that once Special is activated in the battle, the pigs will continue to fight alongside, whether Lucy is on-field or off-field. Lucy’s buffs depend on her own ATK but cannot exceed 600, which is 400 lower than Soukaku’s. Since Lucy’s buffs are based on a percentage of ATK plus a fixed value, any weapon with an attack main stat can reach the limit.

Pros

  • Low requirements for Main Stats and Sub Stats
  • Has some damage output capability

Cons

  • As a support, the buffs are somewhat insufficient
