Pokémon Company Lays Pokémon TCG Pocket NFT Speculation to Rest
Pokémon-Related NFTs in Marketplaces Not Affiliated with Pokémon
Pokémon announced on Tuesday the upcoming release of a new digital trading card game, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket (TCGP), for iOS and Android devices. Trainers will be able to engage in quick card battles against other trainers using digital cards that feature artwork from the past as well as brand-new ones exclusive to the game.
Following the announcement of the new card game, some have speculated that Pokémon opened its doors to NFT, given that Pokémon cards are traded in the real world. However, Pokémon swiftly addressed the speculation in a statement to Polygon and shut it down.
"The Pokémon Company International has not developed or approved of Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) related to the Pokémon brand and associated intellectual property," stated the company. Fans were reminded that any NFTs featuring Pokémon IP in the marketplace are unofficial and not endorsed by The Pokémon Company or the Pokémon brand.
