The amazing color contrasts in this beautiful Box Elder vase will brighten up any room. The vibrant red looks like fire covering one side of the vase. I chose this classic shape because it rises up to complement the flame like character of the wood. This piece is sanded to 600 grit and sealed with three coats of Tried and True Danish oil for a smooth satiny finish. Balanced between lightness and functionality, the form is hollowed out but not too thin so it won't topple easily ✦ Measurements: 10 1/2" x 6 1/2" ✦ Made from a fallen Box Elder tree. ✦ Finished with a non-toxic food safe finish. 🍃 Subscribe for Bowl Updates & Enjoy 10% off your order today. I look for fallen trees everywhere I go from freshly cleared construction sites to the back yards of friends & neighbors. Most of the trees I find come from the banks of the beautiful San Marcos River. When I'm lucky enough to find a fallen tree in the wooded spaces outside of town along the river, I cut it into manageable pieces with my chainsaw. I then carry the wood using a kayak and a wheelbarrow to get it to my truck that is usually parked at least a quarter of a mile away. Back in the woodshop, each piece is cut into a octagonal bowl blank on a bandsaw before it gets mounted onto the lathe. I turn the bowl until the wall thickness is about an inch to an inch and a half thick and seal it with wax so it can dry slowly over the next several months. Once it is completely dry, I turn the bowl down to its finished form and sand it from 80 to 600 grit to create a smooth satin-like sheen. The bowl is then sealed with a non-toxic food safe finish. I feel the true artist is nature itself. My job is to reveal what is hidden in the cleanest, smoothest way possible, creating a window into the soul of the forest that will warm your home and heart. 🍃
