I am sorry that I haven't been able to post for the last few days. My oldest had a stomach bug on Wednesday, my two-year-old had it yesterday, and my husband has it now. I am the last one standing....YIKES! As I have been Cloroxing the house (and myself) I keep repeating, "I will not get sick. I will NOT get sick." So far, it seems to be working. I was only in school for three days this week because of snow on Tuesday and then the beginning of the sickness on Wednesday. We surprisingly have…

We have used AR on our campus for a long time. We just found out that our campus will no longer have AR, and I knew that I needed to come up with a new reading incentive for my students. I wanted something fairly simple, so this is what I've come up with. If they read a book, and complete a book blurb page, then they will get a buck. I plan to run the different dollar amounts on different colored construction paper. The goal will be for them to earn at least ten dollars per six weeks. I was…

If 90% of the students in the entire school meet the goal, the Principal does something outrageous or fun for the students. She has been slimed, kissed a pig, treated the kids to Bingo and even invited them to a carnival. This year she was taped to a wall and read for two hours. She says she would do anything to get kids to read. I guess this is her way of walking the talk! @Jill Meyers Beer Pie In The Face Fundraiser, Pta Programs, Incentive Ideas, Reading Week, Read A Thon, Reading Incentives, Pta Ideas, Family Literacy, Accelerated Reader

Each nine weeks we ask our students to be responsible for reading 25-30 books with the goal of reading a million words each year. In Kindergarten we log the books during class and also begin to teach the parents and students to begin the lifelong habit of reading each day by requiring them to log at least one book each day that they read at home. If 90% of the students in the entire school meet the goal, the Principal does something outrageous or fun with the students. She has been slimed…

Mrs. Pope's Peeps: Incentive to Read! Picture from my blog. I love this bulletin board that I made :) Accelerated Reader Display, Goals Bulletin Board, Ar Reading, Reading Contest, Reading Rewards, Read A Thon, Reading Display, Reading Incentives, Reading Boards

I've been wanting to make an interactive bulletin board for a long time and I finally executed it this week! I'm not sure why I chose to make it during such a busy week! The goal is for students to read for at least 20 minutes at home each night. When you add up all those minutes, it ends up being a lot by the end of a school year! Why read at home? Here's an informational flyer that can bring insight to that: I realize that for some families, this may be difficult to do because of how busy…
