Thunder+ is a magic ability for Lightning in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It is a unique version of the Thunder spell that is exclusive to the Electronica garb. Unlike the normal version of the spell, Thunder+ uses Thundara for its finale attack.
Obtained[]
Thunder+ Lv. 2 is automatically obtained as the locked ability for the Electronica garb, which can be purchased from Canopus Farms on the Wildlands.
Mechanics[]
When Thunder+ is performed, Lightning will unleash the base Thunder spell onto the target, dealing magic lightning-elemental damage. When using the ability twice in quick succession, the command will change to Thundara for the finale trigger, unleashing the spell to damage all foes within a small radius around the target. If a full spell combo is performed, a total of six hits are performed on the enemy. All spells part of the command cost 15 ATB to perform and can be used when airborne.
Thunder+ has the following set stats and cannot be upgraded.
Command | ATB Cost | Attack Power | Stagger Power | Stagger Time | Passive |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Thunder+ (Electronica) |
15 | x0.85 (Thunder) x1.50 (Thundara) |
C | E | None |
Use[]
If the player obtains the Electronica garb prior to game's first main scenario difficulty increase, they can take advantage of Thunder+ when doing both the Luxerion and Yusnaan main scenario quests. For the former, players can easily take advantage of the main quest's boss's weakness to lightning-elemental attacks, allowing for easy stagger if the player is using the ability in conjunction with the separate Thundara ability obtain prior to the encounter. For the latter, Thunder+ can be used to easily dispatch the hordes of Hoplites encountered during the first portion of the Yusnaan main quest.
In addition, it also has its uses when fighting the Miniflans on the Wildlands' Grasslands.
Etymology[]
Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. Depending on the distance and nature of the lightning, thunder can range from a sharp, loud crack to a long, low rumble (brontide).
