Rubicante teaches Edge Inferno
Rubicante is a boss from Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. He is fought in a cinematic battle at Eblan, and later is encountered in the Subterrane of the True Moon. If Edge is in the party, the player has the option to have him duel Rubicante alone. Doing this rewards a powerful armor for Edge, the Fire Scarf, which is missed if the player fights him with a full party.

Inferno (Wii).
Rubicante attacks when Edge fails to defeat Ifrit. Rydia joins Edge during the battle. Simply have the two attack Rubicante as he taunts Edge, and eventually he will use Inferno on them, teaching the move to Rydia and Edge as a Band ability, allowing them to re-engage Ifrit and defeat him.
Subterrane - Party[]
Rubicante will use physical attacks and Firaga spells, and often counters attacks with Firaga. When he closes his cloak, ice attacks will heal him, but fire attacks will not, and he can use Inferno, doing heavy damage to a single party member. Shell and Slow are helpful to reduce his damage output, and with several Black Magic users in the party, the player can use Blizzaga spells to do heavy damage. Ice-elemental weapons should be used by physical attackers if the player has any such weapons.
When he opens his cloak and calls out to the party, from then on he will begin to counter attacks by casting Firaga on himself as well, healing several thousand HP depending on the Moon Phase. The player should make sure their attackers and mages can outdamage his healing, and Rubicante can easily be finished off, as countering resets his ATB Gauge so he will not get a proper turn for the rest of the fight. Eventually Rubicante will cast Inferno on himself to destroy himself and end the battle.
Subterrane - Edge[]
If Edge takes him on solo, the player should Throw Shurikens and spare weapons to attack, and use X-Potions to heal if they have a good supply. The player should have Edge use a Light Curtain and Hermes Sandals on himself, and a Spider's Silk on Rubicante. This will grant Edge the Reflect and Haste statuses, and inflicts Slow on Rubicante. With Reflect up, Edge is protected from Rubicante's Firaga attacks, and with Haste and Slow the player can easily outspeed him and keep ahead of his damage output, leaving the battle a matter of whittling down his HP and keeping Edge's HP up.
Etymology[]
Rubicante is a demon in the Inferno of Dante's Divine Comedy. He is one of the 12 Malebranche ("Evil Claws") who guard Bolgia Five of the eighth circle of Hell, Malebolge. Vulgar and quarrelsome, their duty is to force the corrupt politicians to stay under the surface of a boiling lake of pitch.
His name means "Red-faced Terror".
