How Much Tea Should You Use?
How much tea should you use? That depends.. For loose leaf teas like gyokuro, sencha and hojicha, we recommend to use 5 grams of leaves and 150ml of water. To get an accurate measurement, it is best to use the weight of the leaves as a measurement because all teas have different densities, but if you don’t have a scale at home 1 tablespoon of leaves is about the right amount. For matcha, we recommend to use 2 grams of powder for 100ml of water. This comes out to about 1 teaspoon and a little less than one cup of water. This may seem like a high ratio of powder to water, but it’s actually the perfect amount to create a rich flavor and a thick foam on top. If you want to learn more about how to prepare matcha, you can read our blog article about it at nioteas.com
