Re: newsletter

[edit]

Yea, I have the next newsletter started, I don't have all of the content written yet, and I'm not interested in doing that with my limited time these days. If you'd like to though, yes you can work on the newsletter - I started it here. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:16, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I also don't think we need a "selected article" section in the newsletter. The newsletter is more to let people in the project know what's going on. I think it just adds clutter to the newsletter. Thanks though for leading the effort to write the newsletter, and create another cyclone cup. I think that's a great idea. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:38, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you like the newsletter, or adjustments need to be made? How am I going to elect the member of the month? Do I need to add the TC anniversary? 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 03:56, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's on the right track so far. I don't know if we need member of the month, maybe avoid that, and avoid the TC anniversary. I think the newsletter can be simpler, like a way to notify members of the cyclone cup, for instance, or of big changes and proposals. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:04, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just going to add the member of the month, also, I'm wondering if I'm going to need to add these:
  • Special
  • FT Update
  • Storms of the month table
  • Storms of the month prose
  • MYEXPERIENCE
🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 11:30, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you check the newsletter here and tell me the missing topics? 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 11:44, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, you probably don't need "storms of the month". People who receive the newsletter probably know about the newer storms. Similar for member of the month. It's just a way of picking out an editor, but a lot of people might feel like "why not them", so I don't want it to be a popularity contest. I'm guessing you don't need to include the good articles either, since there have been hundreds since the last newsletter. The important thing to include is ongoing projects in the WPTC, pointing out discussions that people might not know about, and giving updates. Also, be sure to use this newsletter page. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:26, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm just placing the newsletter in my sandbox to prepare replacement. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 03:51, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to remove the editor's pick, because I want to recognize Tails and Dylan both for their contributions. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 03:52, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But why them specifically? I worry that editor of the month could just be a favoritism thing based on whoever writes the newsletter. I don't want to have a clique. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 05:15, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it was a favoritism thingy, I would have picked Typhoon Ampil or something. and I don't exactly have the best experiences with Dylan. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 08:33, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be interested in a bit of mentorship?

[edit]

Hey there, TheNuggeteer :) I came across what happened at ANI last night and I'm really sorry. I enjoyed seeing your enthusiasm and the attention you brought to underserved areas at DYK, and if you'd like to exercise your chops while you sit out, I want to help you find your footing. Here's what I had in mind:

  • Whenever you feel so inclined (but fairly regularly), pick something going on at DYK. An unapproved or approved nomination, or a hook in prep, queue, or on the Main Page.
  • If it's an unapproved nomination, write up (but do not post) a review of a specific hook or of the full nomination, as appropriate. If it's a promoted hook or approved nomination, look for an error – if you don't find one, find a different hook/nomination instead.
  • Post what you find on my talk page (preferably formatted the way you would post it to the live page). I'll be there to provide feedback, tell you what you missed and what you got right :) if there's an error I need to action, I'll make a post and credit you for finding it.
  • No low-hanging fruit – don't review nominations by Epicgenius, Sammi Brie, or other quickpass nominators unless they turn out to not be quickpass after all. No borderline interestingness challenges or other subjective issues, no commenting on ongoing disputes (that would almost certainly violate your topic ban).

Would you be interested? I would understand if you wanted to just leave DYK alone for a while :) Daniel, would this idea be a topic ban violation? If it is, I can go ask for an exemption at AN, but IAR, really. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 04:20, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Theleekycauldron Sure! I really missed participating in DYK. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 10:30, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Let's see what Daniel says and go from there. :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 10:35, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Theleekycauldron - this wasn't a unilateral sanction by an uninvolved administrator, but rather a consensus close of a community discussion, so I don't have any sort of implicit authority around interpretation of the topic ban. On the basis that you're an administrator and provided a tight rein is kept on things, I'm thinking it will probably be OK? Daniel (talk) 22:16, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All right. I'll make a notification post on AN and see if there any significant objections, but I think we're good to go. TheNuggeteer, whenever works for you :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 23:57, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ready 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 06:34, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another question: Can I help another user make a good article even though I'm not the one nominating? I just want to make 2017 Pacific typhoon season into a good topic, but a lot of the articles are huge, and I don't think I can add more, so I'm thinking to help the users who created this article. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 12:28, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That depends what you mean. There is nothing stopping you editing articles. However, you cannot nominate or review articles, nor I suspect could you ask another user to nominate or review an article. I would also avoid editing an article that is undergoing a GAN. CMD (talk) 13:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very puzzled, based on the thread above, why TheNuggeteer posted a request for "FP Mentorship" on my talk page the day after the most recent post in the above thread. With a specific offer of help here, why come to me? Pinging theleekycauldron, who could perhaps include it in the mentorship if allowed by current restrictions or explain why not if not allowed. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:40, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They didn't mention FP, even though I participated there a few times. I honestly don't know if FP is allowed or not. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 03:55, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
FP's really not my wheelhouse, so I don't think there's much I could help with there. Although I will note that the DYK mentorship hasn't done much yet, as they haven't stopped by my talk page :) theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 04:58, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Afrique Victime

[edit]
Hi TheNuggeteer, I've now finished my copy-edit. I made a major structural changes; I moved the section "Political context" further up the article between "Release" and "Tracks". I did this because that section talks about the album in general terms, whereas "Tracks" discusses individual songs—it's usually best to write from the general to the specific, not the other way. I hope you like the change; feel free to re-move that section if you wish. Anyway, good luck with the article. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 05:18, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! Your copyedit was really helpful in (probably getting the article to FA). I already expanded the lead and fixed the reception sections, so this article has a better chance of being an FA. Again, thanks, 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 08:11, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
