Julian Besag (1945-) is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Washington. He was born in Loughborough in the United Kingdom

He has undertaken research on, among otherthings, spatial statistics (with applications to epidemiology), image analysis, applications of statistics to agricultural science and Bayesian inference (including Markov chain Monte Carlo).
