Lead

  • a passing move from Wycombe — What does this mean?

Route to the final

  • Darren Moore then scored with a volley in the 57th minute — It's unclear what team this was for until the next few sentences. Maybe something like "Darren Moore then doubled the score with a volley..." would make it clearer.
  • Ellis scored with a header to put Preston ahead but Torquay's Gregory Goodridge equalised after going one-on-one with Woods. — Minutes?
  • Moore was sent off for punching Paul Raynor — Any word on what set him off?
  • A goal from Stuart Hicks levelled the tie on aggregate — What minute? Also, suggest adding the match score (3–1) here.
  • Raynor scored with a header and Preston progressed to the final with a 4–3 aggregate victory — Likewise, suggest adding the match score (4–1).
  • caught by Garner on the break — What minute? Link break to Glossary of association football terms#B?
  • wrong-footing — What does this mean?

Summary

  • Guppy's shot — Minute?
  • Ian Bryson became the first player of the match to be shown the yellow card in the 16th minute — What did he do?
  • an attempt by Preston's Jamie Squires to defend Thompson's strike put the ball into the net for an own goal — Any more details on this?
  • a passing move from Wycombe — What does this mean?
  • Glyn Creaser became the first Wycombe player to be shown the yellow card — What did he do?
  • Gareth Ainsworth was then booked in the 49th minute — What did he do? Also, maybe avoid saying "booked", which is jargon.
  • Garner was then booked in the 75th minute — Ditto & ditto
  • at their first attempt, earning back-to-back promotions. — This is repeated below. Any reason to have it twice?

Details

  • Missing time of match

Post-match

  • one place outside the play-offs — And how many points?
  • losing at the semi-final stage — Anything to link to (e.g., the "Route to the final" section of the appropriate article)?
