English: This photograph shows the excavation and construction of the escalator shaft at Haymarket Station.
The image is taken from a series documenting the excavation and construction of the Haymarket metro station, including the escalator and lift shafts, a draught relief shaft, station platforms and lower concourse.
The images are taken from the Mott, Hay and Anderson collection, consulting civil engineers responsible from the Tyneside Metro light rail system and the Tyne Pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular tunnels.
The photographers were Turners (Photography) Ltd of 7-15 Pink Lane, Newcastle.
