New Mexico Military Institute is located in Roswell, New Mexico. Founded in 1891 by Col. Robert S. Goss as the Goss Military Institute, and inspired by Virginia Military Institute, NMMI includes a four-year high school and a two-year junior college. NMMI first admitted women as cadets in 1977, although some women did attend as day students in the early years of the school.

The school's motto is "Duty, Honor, and Achievement."

The school's teams are the Broncos (Jr. College) and the Colts (High School).

A few of the interesting people who have attended NMMI:

Sam Donaldson of ABC News

Conrad Hilton, founder of the Hilton Hotel chain (caught breaking into the mess hall one night)

Paul Horgan, two-time Pulitzer-prize winning author who also served as the school's librarian for a time.

Peter Hurd, artist and friend of Horgan's who painted the controversial presidential portait of Lyndon B. Johnson (also operated an on-campus distillery while a cadet)

Roger Staubach, former quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys

Frank D. White former governor of Arkansas (who defeated Bill Clinton after his first term)
