Give-up-itis

Give-up-itis[1] is a pathology where a person as a traumatic event, perceived to be no escape and over which a person has little or no influence.[2] There is no organic cause for the death. Peoples are elderly, sick person, traumatized personn, or handicaped.
Epidemiology
There are multiples types of person:[3]
- elderly
- sick person
- traumatized personn (prisoner in war, or shipwreck survivors)
- handicaped
Cause
The person has lived a traumatic event, perceived to be no escape and over which a person has little or no influence[2]. The triggering trauma would cause an adaptation, a chemical imbalance in the brain, acting as protection against the situation, creating a passive state[4].
Diagnosis
It isn't suicide, it isn't linked to depression.[4]
Symptoms
Remain intact the lucidity, consciousness, cognitive fonction, langage ability. There is no psychosis.[2]
No organic cause is detected[2]; and if an organic problem is detected, it does not explain the cause of death that occurs.[2]
- aboulia
- psychic akinesia or athymhormic syndrome
- apathy
- anhedonia
- reduce pain response
- diminution of executive fonction
- incontinence
- stop drinking, feeding (anorexia), washing
- live in immediate present, no future projection
- adipsia
- social withdrawal
- clinophilia
Recovering give a strong sensation of choice.
Treatment
Personal control over a situation is an important factor to recover.[2]
