Changing title

Title should be 'COVID 19 outbreak in India'. Souniel Yadav (talk) 06:49, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Souniel Yadav: The title is in sync with actual issue 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. I think the title is apt for now. Change not required. SaiP (talk) 09:52, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed cases in infobox

I see that Indians in Diamond Princess are also counted in the infobox but is it right? As we are stating India in location, we should use this count to only cases inside Indian territory. Others can be mentioned elsewhere the article. It is too cluttered as it now. Shanze1 (talk) 14:56, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Total confirm cases increases to 66 as there is an increase in the number of cases in maharashtra to 11 Amol845 (talk) 17:37, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CASES BY STATE

Please, Indian friends, you ought to create a box with the cases per state in India. It must be well documented to outside reliable sources and that would make it much easier to grasp the information in the article. Something like this:

Kerala - 3 cases;

Goa - 0 cases; ... and so forth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.71.87.106 (talk) 19:51, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ECP lock

Can someone provide me the rationale behind an extended confirmed protection? I have seen the disruptive editing episodes but even the main page is only semi-protected. For an article that documents a current event with rapidly changing information, a WP:ECP status is rather limiting. We need as many hands as possible to keep the content up to date. Yes, that also mean constant error checking by the editors. – StreetSodatalk 14:24, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Streetsoda: : As per WP:RPP request it was requested to protect it due to IP and new accounts vandalism.

This the exact convo. from there :- Semi-protection: - IPs and new accounts are adding fake information and rumours. M4DU7 (talk) 07:42, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. N.J.A. | talk 14:46, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Either protection is open to review for appropriateness by any user and or admin, N.J.A. | talk 14:46, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(Non-administrator comment) @NJA: From my understanding of WP:ARBIPA and WP:ACDS extended confirmed protection is appropriate for this situation (if I am wrong please correct me). If an admin wants to use EC + PC I would recommend extending PC to two months that way IP and new accounts would need their edits reviewed after the EC ends. Change confirm cases to 65 Amol845 (talk) 16:05, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Amol845: Please provide a reliable source per the above. –MJLTalk 16:12, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

source for confirmed cases data should be consistent.

if we are using MoHFW or worldometers or BNO or JHU, we should be consistent. Also , i'm not sure the MoHFW is update in realtime, the data always seems to lag the other sources. Often this page doesn't match the main wiki page either. Can we discuss what source we are using ? Gegu0284 (talk) 17:58, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Gegu0284: currently it is inconsistent and not much people are editing here after this article have been locked for extended users only and i do think semiprotection to be decreased for autoconfirmed users. And for the source Main article is using worldometer so to be in sink, i recommend we should use that as source. Mayankj429 (talk) 18:14, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • The MoHFW source is definitely lagging behind by a day. But the real problem is, some of the news sources are using this MoHFW number thinking that it is up to date, which in turn causes a mistake in their own real-time count.
  • Worldometers table has been showing India's count as 62 for the past 24 hours, making me believe that either it copies the number from our main page table (which has also been 62 for the past 24 hours) or doesn't update the number regularly.
  • John Hopkins updates the numbers within a few hours, so it is better than the above two sources when it comes to updated numbers.
  • Among news sources, I have noticed that only The Hindu is able to make the distinction between state-reported cases and the lagging MoHFW confirmed cases [16]. I suggest we use this and show both numbers like the United States outbreak page. M4DU7 (talk) 21:34, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@M4DU7: @Gegu0284:

  • Seeing the confusion around it is best to follow official numbers from Mohfw as this is sensetive issue. They have updated total cases as 73 today. For timeline we can use other sources to expand article.

Mayankj429 (talk) 06:12, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • MoHFW has updated the new number. Please check http://www.mohfw.gov.in/. Could someone change the number? I am unable to edit it. It is now 73 as told above. saputrevu24 06:42, 12 March 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by SaiP (talkcontribs)

@M4DU7: @Gegu0284: @Mayankj429:

@SaiP: They can be used but problem was that tommorow, various news sources were showing different no. of cases, varying from 60 to 70 because state goverment declares new cases firstly and then next day Mohfw adds them all and update. Many News sources were adding cases themselves and were missing on some cases, while some were only showing the cases from Mohfw which was 60 tomorrow. Mayankj429 (talk) 07:40, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@M4DU7: @Gegu0284: @Mayankj429: news channels are not reliable; plus we need by state info. We can't say 73 because of worldometers and not have a statewise breakdown. I suggest we show the statewise breakdown as per MoHFW, with a "total according to MoHFW"; but also against the total the Worldometers number as a "current total"

@M4DU7: @Gegu0284: @Mayankj429: - If that's the case, we would have to rely on https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ and http://www.mohfw.gov.in/. We have no other go. And as someone said, we might have to add as per Worldometer, the count is so-and-so and per MoHFW, the count is so-and-so. What do you think guys? In that way, we can keep a sync with the two official government-level sources. SaiP (talk) 08:43, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree use both worldometer and Mohfw in sink to update. -Mayankj429 (talk)
Ok as of now the MoHFW website is correct. Will make the change if the problem reoccurs. Also, I will take out the foreign national footnote since we now have in the table itself Gegu0284 (talk) 09:49, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
MoHFW now seems to be updating it regularly, but it is still not real time number. We can use the The Hindu tracker for this purpose as well https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/health/covid-19-interactive-map-confirmed-cases-in-india/article31041690.ece M4DU7 (talk) 12:09, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comprehensive source

India Today covers first 50 cases comprehensively. Use if helpful or to remove too many references. -Nizil (talk) 07:50, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for it. I will see how it can be used to make article better. Mayankj429 (talk) 08:01, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Hindu live case tracker

The most reliable source of news in India has a real-time tracker with an interactive map - https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/health/covid-19-interactive-map-confirmed-cases-in-india/article31041690.ece This can be used to update the number of confirmed cases in real time. M4DU7 (talk) 12:07, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@M4DU7: : Seems reliable, can be used with keeping Mohfw as a secondary source as well in my opinion. - Mayankj429 (talk) 12:18, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Added both in a similar way as that of the United States outbreak article. M4DU7 (talk) 12:37, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mayankj429: What would be the primary source then?
@Mayankj429: @M4DU7: Can we use news from twitter verified accounts them as source and add here as a reference? What do you think guys? Off late, there is so much traffic on twitter.
@SaiP: - Twitter is not considered reliable source for most of the time for Wikipedia, to know more see WP:TWITTER - Mayankj429 (talk) 13:24, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@M4DU7: @Mayankj429: The number in the hindu live tracker does not seem to match with the interactive map count. Can we rely on it? The Headline shows 78. But when sum up the count in each based on the interactive map, it totals up to 74. SaiP (talk) 17:07, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I just counted it and it adds up to 78. The Hindu is definitely reliable. M4DU7 (talk) 10:01, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Need sources for Timeline expansion

I have added as much cases to timeline which I could find. Still 3 cases are missing as per total by goverment and after looking to time line and Mohfw data i found that 1 from Delhi, 1 from UP, and 1 from Ladakh are the three cases for which we don't have news sources, I do have a guess that 1 ladakh case is the Iran pilgrimage case who was previously a suspected case. So can anyone help and add these 3 cases with source to timeline.It will be helpfull. Thanks - Mayankj429 (talk) 12:08, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mayankj429: - I will search and add it here. SaiP (talk) 13:03, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Graph for new cases added per day

Can we add a graph that shows the number of new cases added per day? It will help to show the growth rate. Azimuthrosie (talk) 13:50, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on one right now Shanze1 (talk) 14:00, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is an older template so there's no mobile support I guess. There is another modern one called Template:Graph:Chart but I can't get it working earlier (they're are on many other pages though). I'll try it again, see if can. Shanze1 (talk) 14:14, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline expansion

Timeline expansion is becoming hectic and do need more hands. Its not possible to track every case now as they are increasing day by day. So what we should be doing now - 1) Only update summary of the day with no. of new cases reported by each state. 2) Same as before. Need for cases to be categorized as infected, spread-infected

  • Others and @Mayankj429: Don't you think we need to categorize the cases into Infected and Spread-infected? Statement of Ilyas Sharafuddin shouldn't be here

The statement about wrath of Allah on Chinese is ineligible. It's nothing more than some non-noted person uttering about Chinese for persecution of Uighurs. The statement is barely of anything consequential or note.

When I search about Ilyas Sharafuddin he seems to hve very few real news worthy items related to his name. His only real presence seems to be on debates or some sensationalist channels like Times Now overamplifying his statement as news-worthy when only very very few sites, including some that are not even about reliable or real news have highlighted it.

Being an Indian I know all too well how some organizations will cover just about anything to get a "story" even if it's not really news-worthy. Why should some Muslim cleric or any religious figure's irrelevant statement should be included? Please consider removing.

It cannot be called xenophobia or racism in any manner. Belief in divine justice doesn't equate to that, even if it's about someone in another country. Totally irrelevant and unrelated statement. SainiRori (talk) 21:13, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
