BassHunter is the pseudonym of the Swedish musician and DJ Jonas Altberg, born December 22, 1984, in Halmstad, Sweden.

BassHunter describes his own music as eurodance, but others also classify it as hard dance. According to himself, he makes the music on his own computer using the program Fruityloops. He started making music in 1999 and he released his first album – The Bassmachine – through his own home page in 2004.

Altberg has been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome – a condition he spent a lot of energy dealing with while growing up and has only gradually overcome[1].

BassHunter became a noted artist in Sweden, Denmark and Norway after the release of the single Boten Anna ("Anna, the bot") in 2006. The song topped hit charts and – on the 3rd of May 2006 – was named Norway's official Russ-song[2]. It was also the most popular song at The Gathering demo party 2006.

The Swedish lyrics of Boten Anna tell the story of a female IRC user mistaken for an IRC bot by the vocalist who later finds out the truth; subsequently, however, he states that she will always remain a bot in his eyes. Despite the esoteric subject of the lyrics, the song was well-received by mainstream media, albeit the word bot was frequently mistaken for boat (as many people don't know how to pronounce bot correctly), and the double meaning of channel (IRC channel mistaken for the water body with the same name - channel). The video to the song shows BassHunter riding a pedal boat down a canal which may have further added to the confusion. Coincidentally, there is a brand of plastic boat named Bass Hunter.

In the Dutch Top 40 in the Netherlands there is currently (end of august 2006, entering the chart at 27) a spoof of the song. It is also called "Boten Anna" and it is by "De Gebroeders Ko", who also made other Dutch versions of known songs like Dragostea din Tei. Although they know the original song isn't about a boat, they translated it as if it is about a boat (a boat called Anna).

A bot named Anna occasionally resides in the IRC channel #BassHunter.se on Quakenet, albeit due to the popularity of the song, the channel, as well as #Anna, has been filled up with bots.

Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA

This song is about BassHunter and his friends, using the voice communication application Ventrilo while they are playing DotA, a custom map for Warcraft 3. It's a eurodance song, very similar to Daddy DJ's song Daddy DJ or Scatman.
