Consensus?! By only 2 users?! Have you actually dared to read the LOOOOOONG discussion archives?! What you call "consensus" is a total contradiction to the REAL consensus among scholar, as represented in this authoritative academic encyclopaedia (one of the prestige projects of Columbia University). Be honest: do you have ANY expertise in this subject?! This is ridiculous! I will ask other users to help out ... people who know the academic sources and who know how to differentiate between sources. But thankfully, a more knowlegable user has already reacted ... If you have no knowledge of the subject or the respective academic sources, please stay away from the discussion. Thank you! --Lysozym (talk) 20:07, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Bangladesh Premier League Co-ordinator election

Hey Mdann52, I believe this election for WP:BPL has ended. Now will you please announce the result, kindly?--Pratyya (Hello!) 12:57, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This one has me a bit puzzled. How does an AFC/C submission get accepted then shortly thereafter deleted? I noticed its empty status (despite my suggested articles and categories for inclusion) shortly after it was accepted, noticed later on the note about its pending deletion due to it being empty, and was considering filling it up with some articles, but now - Poof! - it's gone. Was there some reason my suggested articles were not included and could their inclusion have prevented the deletion? I'm not terribly active here and can be very procrastinatory with the edits (hence my preferred use of AFC with it's smooth, efficient, and official-like process for category creation) so my apologies for my recent inaction, but if I had known this would happen, I might have intervened to added some articles as soon as the submission was accepted.

BTW, here are some more suggested articles:

The Apartment
Haiku Tunnel
Head Office
Office Romance
The Office Party
Office Monkey
Netherbeast Incorporated
Drones (film)
Office Killer
God, Inc.
Golden Years (TV programme)
Office Office
The Great Office War
Stupid, Stupid Man
Joe Somebody
Working Girl
Horrible Bosses
Workaholics
Big (film)

Sorry about that; I didn't realize the category wasn't automatically populated... recreated, with your list of categories. --Mdann52talk to me! 07:10, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again! Thanks so much for the above, but I figured I'd let you know that likely due to the fact that this was a category recreation, the original talk page with its AFC info and categorization is no longer present. I was hoping that talk page could be restored along with the cat if it was undeleted rather than recreated, but I winced when I saw it was RHaworth who had the duty to pull the trigger on the deletion. When I commented on the nature of this deletion, hoping for a restoration, he kinda just griped and didn't do anything. Should the talk page and its associated categories be restored/recreated? Your call, and Thank You. 4.254.85.71 (talk) 07:41, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite suspicious but if you're willing to keep an eye on their edits it should be fine. I'd somewhat agree with kuru in that they are dubious, but it's within reason. NativeForeigner Talk 08:08, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RfA

Hi Mdann52, I saw that you have nominated yourself for RfA. Good luck and I'll definitely support you! :) Jianhui67 talkcontribs 10:23, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Jianhui67: thanks. If you are willing to leave a co-nom, it will be gratefully received :) --Mdann52talk to me! 12:17, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely fine,thanks :) --Mdann52talk to me! 15:22, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well then, start up the RfA then. But I have no guarantee whether the RfA will pass or not. But still, good luck! Jianhui67 talkcontribs 15:43, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Or do you want to get more nominations for your RfA, especially nominations from experienced editors like Callanecc or other experienced administrators? Normally the nominator will affect the nominee. So it may be best if you can get a more experienced editor to co-nominate you. I have only > 4400 edits and is only a reviewer and rollbacker. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 15:59, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Similarly, I only have a little over 5,800 edits and reviewer rights; so can understand any desire for a more experienced nominator. Matty.007 19:02, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just a quick note regarding your RfA, which I've been looking through. Some editors may look a little unfavourably on your use of would of in your answer to a question there, particularly as admins can be expected to be communicating with new users a fair bit. As you've apparently not been made aware of this here before, I hope you won't mind me mentioning it! Of course, it's entirely up to you how much notice you take of this, and how valid you consider such potential concerns are. Cheers. -- Trevj (talk) 15:58, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure when the 24 hours we spoke about is up, but in light of Nyttend's comment, you are on 62%, over 30 less users have commented/!voted on your RfA than on Lugia2453's. Personally, I would be inclined to wait a few more days, but I came by to see if you had changed your mind? (As a note, Jianhui67 is also of the opinion that a few days could turn the tide.) Thanks, and good luck, Matty.007 10:35, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should talk to him about this by email, and not here. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 10:48, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

However, I will not discuss it in a public channel; I can invite you to my private channel if needed. --Mdann52talk to me! 10:58, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it appropriate to add a Google Earth kml that I compiled to a Wikipedia page? If so, are there any examples of best practices? No. The main reason for this is that software such as Google Earth is copyrighted, along with the maps/images, and they fail our non-free content rules. --Mdann52talk to me! 20:28, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm curious about that since KML is not software that I know of. It's a series of gps coordinates in an XML file. Wikipedia uses singular gps coordinates in the GeoHack which in turned links to dozens of mapping applications including free ones. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dcoffida (talkcontribs) 01:15, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Dcoffida: I think I misunderstood you. I thought you meant a screenshot of the KLM on Google earth, which wouldn't be acceptable. However, I believe Wikipedia doesn't support KLM as a file type, but the people at WP:VPT probably know more on it than I do. --Mdann52talk to me! 08:48, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Publisher v work

Simplest way to explain this: when citing an article from eg The Daily Telegraph then the work is The Daily Telegraph. The Daily Telegraph is not published by The Daily Telegraph - it is published by Telegraph Media Group. Similarly, the Daily Mail is a work; it is published by Dmg media. The Sun is a work, published by News Group Newspapers. As a rule of thumb, where you take a cite from is the work, not the publisher. BlackberrySorbet 23:17, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks; This area has always confused me :) --Mdann52talk to me! 08:17, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem; you're not alone. When copy-editing references, I'd say that this is far and away the most common mistake I come across. BlackberrySorbet 14:53, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Sandboxr" article review

Good evening Mdann52,

I am wondering if you could review an article you deleted recently? I have edited the original article and would like to get this reviewed and published if possible. Someone else had written the original article and it was untouched and unedited for over 6 months. I would appreciate any feedback you have to make this an unbiased article.

Thanks for your help with this.

Gulistan, Dhaka

Hi, I'm new here and finding my way to create an acceptable article. Can you help me to figure out the thingss I may need to change or make some corrections? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Gulistan,_Dhaka Afrin.Danny (talk) 14:57, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please review this article? And give me some feedback? Afrin.Danny (talk) 21:26, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The lede is not in an appropriate tone for a Wikipedia article. Phrases like "every place in Gulistan is a market" is not appropriate for an article. --Mdann52talk to me! 13:12, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mdann52. Thank you very much for reviewing, accepting and publishing the article I created on Baye McNeil. I have some more work on it since its publication - noting more references, and including an external link...I saw that another editor inserted a notice at top of article questioning its notability. I don't understand why. I followed all instructions I was given on articles for creation help page and in live chat I did with help page - noting sources I was informed were reliable...Do you have any thoughts on this? Once again, thank you for your help! Minusminority (talk) 05:23, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably what I was expecting; The sources are ok to keep the article in mainspace, but it is always looking for more. The template has several useful links in it, and I would recommend looking at them to see if any more exist. --Mdann52talk to me! 13:54, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mdann52. Thanks for the reply. By "template" you mean notice/tag re. notability at top of article, right?...There are numerous references on subject that pop up when doing google search. I've included several more since submitting article. I don't understand why notability is being questioned. I'll leave a post re. this on talk page of article...Thanks again for your help! Minusminority (talk) 14:25, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Watt in Feb 2010

User:Mdann52 Hi there. I changed the licence on Flickr as well, but couldn't work out which one corresponded with what licence I had been asked to change it to here. Flickr gives me to following options:

1. Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Creative Commons 2. Attribution-NonCommercial Creative Commons 3. Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs Creative Commons 4. Attribution Creative Commons 5. Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons 6. Attribution-NoDerivs Creative Commons

Which one should I select?

Thanks,

Edward

@Edwardmbishop: Number 5 is {{cc-by-sa}}, which is probable the best one to use. --Mdann52talk to me! 13:52, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mdann52 Hi. I changed it as you suggested. What do I need to do now in order to change the picture on the specific page? Edward

@Edwardmbishop: the file page still states cc-nd-2.0, which we can't use on Wikipedia. Please can you update this on the Flickr page, then I will upload it. --Mdann52talk to me! 13:20, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, however you can manually change the size; eg. [[File:Ben Watt by Edward Bishop.jpg|thumb|100px]] produces the following.

Oblivion (roller coaster) Good Article Review

Hi Mdann52, Firstly I'd like to apologize for taking longer than 7 days to come back after placing it on hold. However, you have made the fixes I felt were needed as well as many raised by others. While some weren't addressed, I felt these weren't appropriate to prevent GA (if it were an FA nomination, then they may have been) and I'm happy to tell you that I have granted the article Good Article status.

All the best and I hope to see the article up for FA in the not to distant future.
