Year the Nationals were founded

I've noticed that an anonymous user recently changed the year that the Syracuse Nationals started from 1939 to 1946, and removed the information about the Nationals' years as an independent franchise. The Syracuse Nationals actually started in 1939 as an independent, professional barnstorming team, and 1946 is just the year the team joined the National Basketball League. The team played as the Syracuse Reds during their barnstorming years, even though the information for the Syracuse Reds should be kept at this article because the Syracuse Nationals are the same franchise as the Syracuse Reds. --Apollo1758 (talk) 16:37, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any source that says it is the same franchise? I found this book at Google Books, and it doesn't clearly make the connection anywhere. Zagalejo^^^ 23:11, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was wrong at the time. It actually should be deleted because any source that states so appears to be a circular reference. --Apollo1758 (talk) 03:35, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No source I can find mentions the Reds as existing after 1941. This book on page 41 states that Danny Biasone, founder of the Nationals, paid $5000 to join the NBL in 1946 specifically because his (unnamed) semi-pro team had two dates cancelled against the NBL's Rochester Royals. The Nationals, therefore, definitely have connections predating 1946, but the last sentence of the same paragraph ("Now, with his own team,...") implies that the NBL Nationals may be considered a new entity distinct from the semi-pro team.
