Ahmad Khonsari was an Iranian grand ayatollah and indeed a marja. In contrast to all other maraji of his time, who lived in Qom or in Najaf, he was based in Tehran. He died in 1985, aged 98.[1]
He was a quietist, who believed the clergy should not get involved in politics.[2]
