The eighth season of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on March 26, 2011 with the episodes "A Friendly Game" and "Oral Report" and will consist of 26 episodes, bringing the number of episodes up to 178.

Some time during this season, about 15 episodes so far, SpongeBob SquarePants will overtake Rugrats as the longest running Nicktoon (in terms of number of episodes in which Rugrats had 172 episodes and SpongeBob currently has 167 so far). SpongeBob SquarePants was put on hiatus due to an interferences of schedule-stealing new shows.

Squidward purposly gets hurt so Mr. Krabs can cater to him whenever. Notes [Mr. Krabs] does not want to do things for him Nickelodeon UK promoted this episode as "A Squidward-Shaped Mystery". It is revealed that there is an OWS poster, hidden in the stockroom. There were many candles while Mr. Krabs was pampering Squidward, and the customers weren't bothered. But in "No Nose Knows", Patrick's scented candles annoyed everyone. This is because there is a difference between scented candles and fresh candles. They didn't call the OWS in "The Splinter" when SpongeBob got the splinter in his thumb, they just threatened to send him home. This is possibly because SpongeBob's splinter was a minor injury. In Squidward's false flashback, the chain on the right snaps, but in reality it was the one on the left.(its possible the scene was flipped) Also he says he lays for 6 hours before getting found. However SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs run in immediately when they hear him fall. It is debatable as to whether the surveillance camera operates from the same room as the one in "Truth or Square." The one in Truth or Square seemed unreachable, hinting that this one works from a different surveillance room.

Mr. Krabs and Plankton set out to find clues of why they have no costumers. Notes This is the second episode where Plankton & Mr. Krabs unite due to a new restaurant having many customers. The first was in "Best Frenemies". This is the second time a customer blows up. The first was in "Stanley S. Squarepants". This is the fourth time Mr. Krabs tries to steal other formulas. The first was in "Best Frenemies". The second was in "Spy Buddies". The third was in "Plankton's Regular".

Mr. Krabs attempts to put up a drive "thru" but SpongeBob intrudes. Notes This wasn't the first time the Krusty Krab had a drive thru. The first time was in "Driven to Tears". The windows are made out of glass, not wood. Patrick surprisingly does not appear in this episode. Second mention of "Chum Nuggets". The first time was in "Chum Caverns" Plankton had a drive-thru in "Komputer Overload".

Patrick tries to impress with a beard he grew while he fell asleep. Notes This is the second time Patrick gets a beard. The first was To Save a Squirrel. This episode was originally going to be called "Old Man Patrick" but it was changed to "Squidward's School for Grown-Ups". This episode is paired with "Oral Report", but "The Hot Shot" originally was going to be paired with this episode. This is the 6th time Plankton appears without Mr. Krabs. The first was "Walking Small", the 2nd was "Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy IV", the 3rd was "Patrick Smartpants", the 4th was "Krabby Road" and the 5th was "Single-Celled Anniversary". Normally, sea urchins can inject poison. This is the first time SpongeBob sang opera in a 'girly' way. He usually does it like a 'normal man'.

The original title for this was "Runaway Roadtrip". The DVD cover still has it (However it is possible that the special will have two titles as most specials do). Mrs SquarePants' name is revealed as Margaret Bubblebottom-SquarePants. The original title of this episode sounds the same parody as the film, RV: Runaway Vacation.

This is possibly the sequel to "Sandy's Rocket", as SpongeBob and Sandy were previously going to the moon in this episode. This episode aired on Nickelodeon Canada before Nickelodeon USA could. Nickelodeon Canada aired it on November 9, 2011 while Nickelodeon USA aired it on the 10th.

Mr. Krabs shows SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Pearl and Sandy pictures of his vacation to the Bikini Bottom Mint. It all starts in his office, when Mr. Krabs says that he will close the Krusty Krab tomorrow and Squidward immediately leaves. Mr. Krabs explains to SpongeBob that he will go on a vacation with Pearl and him. The next day they get ready. But when Pearl realizes that SpongeBob is going as well she throws a suitcase on top of SpongeBob, telling him not to get up until they leave town.

Main article: Ghoul Fools SpongeBob and Patrick are cloud watching when the Lord Poltergeist's house crashes. SpongeBob and Patrick decide to go in and they find Lord Poltergeist. But Patrick doesn't believe the Poltergeist is a ghost. Because the engine room broke down, Lord Poltergeist gives them 24 hours to fix it. So now SpongeBob and Patrick tell Mr. Krabs, Squidward and Sandy to help. Guests: Chris Elliott as Lord Poltergeist Notes: This is the second Halloween special (the first one was "Scaredy Pants"), and the 3rd appearance of the Anchovies.

SpongeBob and Patrick learn the secret origins of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy from the heroes themselves. Notes This episode is similar to "Friend or Foe", as it tells 2 different stories, then finally the true story. Tim Conway voices as Barnacle Boy, and in this episode, Barnacle Boy's incorrect real name is Tim. His real name has already been confirmed as Kyle in a previous episode. Ernest Borgnine plays as Mermaid Man, and Mermaid Man's name is really Ernie. The radioactive bug biting Mermaid Man's forehead is a reference to Peter Parker getting bitten by a radioactive spider from Spider-Man. Squidward was watching some 1980's dancing show. The episode's title is an obvious parody of the 2005 film Batman Begins.

This is paired with "Barnacle Face" although it was confirmed by Nick that "House Sittin' for Sandy" would be paired with it. They changed this later on. Apparently, SpongeBob has a storage room/pantry that hasn't appeared in any episodes before this one.

Then the phone rings; it's Sandy and SpongeBob agrees to house sit for her. However, chaos erupts when Patrick arrives for a visit. Notes During the first half of the episode, SpongeBob was in the treedome without a water helmet, yet he wasn't drying out. This episode has a Battle for Bikini Bottom reference in it, which is robots causing destruction. Running Gag: Patrick saying "It wasn't me". This episode was supposed to be paired with "Pet Sitter Pat", but it changed to "Smoothe Jazz at Bikini Bottom". In previous episodes, Sandy didn't have a greenhouse. Even though the robot dropped her laser, Sandy blamed SpongeBob. This is the second time SpongeBob watches Sandy's house. The first one was in "Wormy"
