Can you close an RFC?

Hi. Talk:Pregnancy has an RFC that needs to be closed by an uninvolved admin. Would you care to do the honors? Nandesuka (talk) 03:46, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I wasn't around to do this. I'm on semi-wikibreak at the moment. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 21:20, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Barack Obama

Hope you're enjoying your wikibreak, Slim!

When you return, you might like to have a look at Barack Obama. This came to my attention when someone brought it up at WP:VPT, noting that it had breached some of the template transclusion limits. I've described a possible fix to the technical problem on the article talk page, but I think the real problem is that the article needs some drastic trimming. As I know you like polishing Featured Articles (which this one is), I thought you might like to have a go at it. Regards, --NSH001 (talk) 16:25, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take a look, but I'm not sure I could face that amount of work. But thanks for asking me to look at it anyway. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 21:20, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

That was great work on FGM. --Anthonyhcole (talk) 23:03, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Anthony, the feedback's appreciated. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 18:34, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We are discussing how Pain should address pain in other species, and I know you've done work on animal welfare articles. --Anthonyhcole (talk) 07:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, will take a look. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 21:20, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Jesus myth theory

Some new blood has come to the Jesus myth theory and there is talk about merging it with another article (most likely Historicity of Jesus and I remember that early last year you stated "I've been very slowly trying to read about this topic for the last few months so I can edit this article—and it has been slow because essentially I have little interest in the issue, but somehow got attached to it only after it ended up twice at FAC with some very strong language in it, and so my reading has been ponderous—but what is becoming every day clearer is twofold: (a) this article is a POV fork of Historicity of Jesus; and (b) that the Christ myth theory is that we're not in a position to say that Jesus existed, and we ought to stop being so certain about it." and so thought you might want to provide some input on the idea of a merger.--BruceGrubb (talk) 13:36, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'd prefer not to get involved there, Bruce. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 21:20, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Italian Justice

Italian Justice

Here you go. Let me know where you think it should go.

Italian Justice

According to the Italian Code of Criminal Procedure individuals accused of a crime such as murder are considered innocent until proven guilty. After the trial of the first grade (primo grado) if convicted the individual is referred to as defendant or accused (imputato) and is not considered guilty until convicted at the trial of the second grade (secondo grado).(vogt) During this time the defendant may be allowed to go free pending the final verdict, or held in cautionary detention. An appeal to the second grade, which is essentially a trial de nuovo where all evidence and witnesses can be re-examined, is essentially guaranteed. With conviction at the second grade it is possible to appeal to the Supreme Court (Corte di Cassazione) only on technical grounds or on issues of the interpretation of law. Written briefs are prepared and reviewed in camera (i.e. there is no more testimony or verbal presentations) and either accepted, in which case it is sent back to the appeals court for retrial, or rejected, in which case the verdict is final and the individual receives a sentence with credit for time served while in cautionary detention.(Povoledo)(Pisani)

That's brilliant, Doug, thank you! I was thinking it would be good just after the section on Meredith Kercher. Perhaps in a section called "Italian justice system," or similar. I was then thinking of adding a subsection to it on Mignini, and the role of the prosecutor. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 21:18, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, added. Dougbremner (talk) 21:43, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's excellent, thanks again. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 21:53, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ezra again

Hi, SlimVirgin - just want to give you a head's up I'll be picking at Pound a little. I'm fairly busy IRL, so don't expect to do much at all these days, mostly tidying, and some picking here and there. Eventually I'll be adding style, themes, translations sections, but those are far in the future. Anyway, I wanted to drop an FYI note. Truthkeeper (talk) 22:00, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, best of luck with it, and thanks for letting me know. And I hope all is well with you and yours. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 22:02, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Same to you. I noticed you were gone for a while - I'm happy that wasn't permanent. Truthkeeper (talk) 22:11, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'm currently on wikibreak. And yet ... :) SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 22:25, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Old habits seem to die hard. Maybe when editors go on wikibreak they are should be given a sponsor. God knows I've tried a few times, and yet...Ceoil (talk) 00:00, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The only problem is if the sponsor were a Wikipedian s/he'd likely be as bad as the sponsored, and if not a Wikipedian wouldn't quite grasp the horrendous pull of the place, and wouldn't realize the need to isolate the sponsored entirely from anywhere that might have an Internet connection. (I like olives, by the way, so thanks.) SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 00:07, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can't explain to non wikipedians without seeming daft; I've tried a few times late on sat nights/sun morings with close friends brothers, and have been met with some unique facial expressions. Mostly supportive, they know that I'm compulsive about things that interest me, and most would be sussed enough to realise the standards we ascribe to. Bty, the olives were a long time coming, so thanks for taking. Ceoil (talk) 00:24, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've given up trying - have given in to my addiction. All I can do at this point is hope to make something good out of it. I can't offer sponsorship but how about a collab on Ezra? The page needs Slim's writing and Ceoil's grasp of modernism, and I'm determined to see another core bio get a star. So, in or out? Truthkeeper (talk) 00:16, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for asking me, but I don't think I could face it, in terms of the reading I'd have to do. I'm trying not to get involved in anything that requires a big time commitment (actually, I'd prefer not to be editing at all, but you can see how that's working out). But if you and Ceoil want to have a bash again, I'd be very happy to see that. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 00:22, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This will be long and slow - I'm really not around much and haven't much time myself for the reading, so by the time we're up and running you might be back in form again. Keep it in mind. It is hard to stay away, but also hard to put up with this place sometimes. Balance is important - but hard to achieve. Truthkeeper (talk) 00:30, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about balance. What concerns me is that there used to be a sense that the time was being spent on something worthwhile. Now it's increasingly feeling as though WP is just a giant pub conversation, and more and more long-term editors are leaving or taking pages off their watchlists. That's making it harder to deal with. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 16:14, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I have the wrong watchlist or something, but I've noticed that most of the edits that float by are bot edits, tagging, spelling fixes - all minor stuff - or a lot of arguing on talkpages. It's rare that I see a page being built. But I wasn't here when the real building was being done and I think the transition to maintenance and rewriting poorly written pages or improving existing pages isn't going well. There does seem to be a lot of noise these days. I have wondered if that was something that happened after a certain amount of time of being around or whether there's been a change. Truthkeeper (talk) 18:22, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
SV, its prob best to make your peace with you time here, the core of content people on the encyp are diminishing but passionate, idealistic people like us who have a compulsion to write about the things that drive us. We might bicker among ourselves from time to time, harshly from time to time, but we are of the same mind basically, and face the same obstacles and doubts. We should always look after and support each other in principal. Ceoil (talk) 15:19, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interview for the 2011 Wikipedia Fundraiser

Hello SlimVirgin, I hope you're well. My name is Aaron and I'm one of the Storytellers working on the 2011 fundraiser here at the Wikimedia Foundation. For this year's campaign we're seeking out and interviewing active Wikipedians like yourself, in order to produce a broader and more representative range of "personal appeals" to run come November. If you'd like to participate in this project, please email me at amuszalskiwikimedia.org. Interviews are typically conducted by phone or Skype and take between 30-90 minutes. (Note: This invitation is open to any interested Wikipedian — If you're reading this, and would like to be interviewed as well, please contact me.) Thanks!
