Here are some tasks awaiting attention:
|
Here are some things you can do:
Remember
- Family Guy characters are not real.
- Don't nitpick on continuity.
- Don't attempt to recreate the humor of the show. This rarely works, and is contrary to the purpose of an encyclopedia.
Cleanup
- Add out-of-universe information.
- Replace explicit references to episodes with episode citations.
- Move superfluous examples of character actions to appropriate episode pages.
- Trim Cultural references sections, removing non-notable examples of things no one needs explained.
- Convert trivia sections into freakin' brilliant prose.
- Shorten plot synopses.
- Identify editors who swap in smart quotes for typewriter quotes and beat them bloody.
Build the project
- Help finish project tasks.
- Invite quality editors to participate.
- Welcome new editors.
Announce
- Let other Project members know what you've done!
This project hopes to improve and better organize information in articles related to Family Guy. This page and its subpages contain suggestions and guidelines; it is hoped that this project will bring Family Guy articles in line with Wikipedia standards.
If you would like to help, please sign up and inquire on the Talk page, or pick a task from the Task list.
For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and Wikipedia:WikiProject/Best practices.
Scope
The scope of this project is to bring all Family Guy and related articles into line with established policies and guidelines and push them towards good article status.

Family Guy reference desk
This is a new and experimental project that answers general questions about Family Guy mistakenly posted to article Talk pages, but not related to editing the articles. Editors are encouraged to tag such questions with the {{evilmonkey}} template.
Project members will monitor Category:Talk pages with Family Guy forum questions and move tagged question to Wikipedia:WikiProject Family Guy/Reference desk (shortcut WP:FGdesk), where they will be answered by a vast staff of Family Guy experts. Editors who would like to participate in this project are encouraged to sign up.

Stub templates
Stubs are managed by the Stub-sorting WikiProject. Before creating a new stub, you should propose it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. See Wikipedia:Stub for general guidelines on proposing stub templates and categories. Do not simply create new stub templates, as these will be deleted.

Guides
WikiProject Family Guy in-house essays
Neither of these are official Wikipedia guidelines, but they are recommended for editors of Family Guy articles.
- Episode citation style – recommended method for using video as cited source.
- Family Guy trivia – caution against adding Family Guy mentions to non-FG articles.
- Wikipedia is not a joke book – suggestions for avoiding unencyclopedic detail.

Assessment process
Character assessments
To advance toward Good article status, character articles should be developed to conform to the WP:WAF guideline. Jabba the Hutt is a former featured article, and a good example of writing about fictional characters.
Episode assessments
Suggested ratings:
- "Stub" – unsourced plot synopses and trivia pages, pic, and little more.
- "Start" – probably the default class since new episode articles are developed very quickly. (Most Family Guy episodes go in quickly, with screenshot, infobox, Trivia (or "Cultural References") section. Even though this grows very long, this is technically a "Stub" class article. Such articles are being rated "Start" anyway — fewer fights.)
- "B" – episode articles in really good shape, ready to submit for GA review.
- "Low" importance if interesting mostly as a Family Guy episode. This is the default rating since we have so many episodes.
- "Mid" importance episodes are of non-trivial importance outside of FG, such as those subject to a lawsuit, or where main storyline is likely to draw attention in media not normally concerned with television episodes.
- "High" importance for significant controversy (for example, one of the 2 episodes for which the PTC asked the FCC to fine Fox).
- "Top" importance if mentioned in a Presidential speech. (Again, we have over 100 episode articles, so let's not overstate the importance of any one episode. This project should not have more than 2-3 "Top" importance articles.)
Talk pages for most FG episodes would start with ...
{{Family Guy WikiProject|class=Start|importance=low}}
- Assessment comments
Ratings other than Start/Low could use an explanation in the Assessments comments. (Example: Talk:When You Wish Upon a Weinstein)
To advance toward Good article status, episode articles should be developed to conform to the WP:EPISODE (or WP:FICT) guideline. Itchy & Scratchy & Marge is an exemplary episode article. Typical obstacles to overcome:
- Most Family Guy episode articles lack "out-of-universe" information, especially information about the Production process. Our coverage of Reception is usually limited to simple Nielsen ratings and the like; reviews, criticism and news sources (especially those not normally covering TV) are desirable.
- Also, many FG episode articles bog down terribly in explaining "in-universe" details from a real-world perspective. For example, explanations of how Brian's given age of 7 can be reconciled with depictions of him in the 60s, or his own recollection of relationships in the 80s, do not belong in Wikipedia articles about television show episodes.
For deletion
Most Family Guy Xfd pages should be added to Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Television. Character pages should also be added to Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Fictional characters. Please don't rally to save articles nominated for good reason.
- Template:FGwiki – per WP:EL, with the additional concern that Family Guy Wiki is "a poor wiki".

- Template:Religion in Family Guy [Delete, 18 November 2007]
- Template:Cite episode – discussion has implications for any citation that uses primary sourcing (tho this discussion is about the template, not WP:CITE or WP:V policy). Many of our episode articles would be disrupted if this template were deleted, and WP:FGcite would be broken. However, nominator says this template is abused, at least in wrestling articles. [Keep, 23 November 2007]]
- The FFC song [Delete, 18 November 2007]
- Template:Infobox Family Guy Season 7 [Delete, 4 November 2007]
- Template:Family Guy (TBS) – a third navigation box for episode articles. [Delete, 16 October 2007]
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Family Guy, season 6 episodes – episodes not yet broadcast, for lacking sources. (Editors are reminded to sign in before commenting.) [Delete all not redirected, 16 October 2007]
- Culturally significant words and phrases from Family Guy – lacks context and fails to show how the phrases have become culturally significant. [Delete, 6 September 2007]
- multiple Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide episodes – described as basically unsourced plot synopses and trivia pages, a standard by which many Family Guy episode articles can be deleted. [Delete all, 24 August 2007]
- Glenn Quagmire [Keep, 9 June 2007]
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peter's Got Woods [Keep, 9 June 2006 & 23 September 2005]

Family Guy wiki
Family Guy wiki – the Wikia does not fall under Wikipedia guidelines, and is outside the scope of WikiProject Family Guy. However, material deleted for being Wikipedia-unsuitable (such as in-universe speculation, meditations on anthropomorphic dogs, and separate articles on minor, one-time characters) may be salvaged to the Family Guy Wiki.
- Interwiki links to the Family Guy Wiki use this syntax: [[wikiasite:familyguy:article name]]
- [[wikiasite:familyguy:Jabba the Griffin|Jabba the Griffin]] → Jabba the Griffin
- The {{FGwiki}} template makes this easier
- {{FGwiki|Jabba the Griffin}} → Template:FGwiki
Because wikis are not considered reliable sources, links to Family Guy wiki are not useful as citations.
The Family Guy Helpers
The Family Guy Helpers – membership in this club encourages participation in WikiProject Family Guy (thanks!), but the WikiProject is not formally related to the Helpers, and their activities fall outside our scope. Information and discussion relevant to the Family Guy Helpers but not to the WikiProject should occur on Helpers' pages, not here.
