Super Mario for MegaZeux or SM4MZX, is a non-profit fangame based on Nintendo's Super Mario series. The 2-D platform game was created with MegaZeux a game creation system (GCS) in 1999 by Tyrone MacLean-Wilson (T-Bone) ; a Canadian based MegaZeux video game programmer.

No full version of the game has been released publicly. Super Mario for MegaZeux is playable using the MegaZeux program on Windows and Mac. It is possible to play this game on the Wii and PlayStation Portable via homebrew programs that are currently under development.

Development

The development of SM4MZX consisted of several MegaZeux programmers from the Digital MZX online community, one of which being, Gilead Kutnick (Exophase), a popular PSP homebrew programmer. Exophase contributed to the programming of the video game sprites and to the MegaZeux program itself.

The conversions of the original Super Mario game sprites to ASCII characters, with appropriate matching colors were done manually, pixel by pixel.. Many of the original sprites had to be redesigned to fit within the 256 Characters and 16 colors limitations of MegaZeux.

Concepts were made for the Yoshi dinosaur to make an appearance in the game, but the idea was later on abandon.

Plot

Super Mario must find out how creatures from the dream world have escaped into reality. Mario must go through 8 worlds to find out what is causing this to happen. Mario is aided by several friends through out the game. Kirby finds his cameo somewhere down the game's storyline.

Gameplay

Super Mario for MegaZeux requires a keyboard. Mouse and joystick support was removed early in its development.
