Geography

Kurree Sharif is is a major village located at 32°42′N 74°23′E / 32.70°N 74.39°E / 32.70; 74.39. Kurree Sharif is located about 45 km north east of Gujrat City and about 25 km from city of Sialkot. It is perched atop a small hillock which overlooks Marala Headworks at the very juncture where the Chenab River winds its way into Pakistan.

Demography

The village has a population of around 8000. Agriculture, livestock ,labour are the main source of income. Almost 100% of the population is Muslim. There are few Christian families also in the village, living very cordially. The major castes in the village are the Malik (Khokhar) and Jatt.

History

Kurree is quite old, before the partition of the subcontinent this village had a major population of Sikhs and Hindus who migrated to India.

Tourism

Marala Headworks which is a tourist spot as well is located just about a kilometre from Kurree. Three Rivers entering Pakistan from India meet at this very place which gives a wonderful and lovely view. These Rivers are Manawar Tawi, River Chenab and Jammu Tawi. Manawar Tawi passes just a half km from Kurree. It is a very attractive tourist place and very fine picnic spots can be developed here. This place gives a good view of the river and the headworks.

Investment potential

The area has a lot of potential for setting up new industries along Marala-Gujrat road. Labour is cheap in the land is available in abundance and on cheap rates.

Education

There is only one primary school for boys and one for girls.

== 'Prominant Personalities' == Master Dost Ali Malik, Muhammad Yasin Malik are well known figures in the area.Master Dost Ali Malik is recognised in the area for the hard work and and strugle he has put in in educating his wards.
