War 2 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action-thriller film directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The sixth installment in the Spy Universe and sequel to War (2019), it stars Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and N. T. Rama Rao Jr.

Announced in April 2023 under the title of War 2, principal photography commenced in October 2023 and has taken in place across Mumbai, Delhi, Madrid, Abu Dhabi, Kashmir, and Italy. War 2 is scheduled to release on 14 August 2025 coinciding with the Indian Independence Day in IMAX and other premium formats.[1][2]

Development

In April 2023, Yash Raj Films announced a sequel to the 2019 film War and sixth instalment in the shared universe titled War 2. Ayan Mukerji was roped into direct the film, replacing Siddharth Anand.[3][4][5] This would be Mukerji's first venture outside of Dharma Productions. Hrithik Roshan reprises his role while Telugu actor N. T. Rama Rao Jr was cast as the antagonist, making his debut in Hindi cinema.[6] In June 2023, Kiara Advani was cast as the female lead.[7][8] Apart from Roshan, Ashutosh Rana reprises his role from the prequel. In Tiger 3, Roshan reprised his role in a cameo appearance in the post-credits scene, indirectly teasing the film.[9] The post-credit scene was directed by Mukerji himself.[10]

Filming

Principal photography commenced in October 2023 in Madrid.[11][12] A second schedule was filmed in Abu Dhabi in December 2023.[13] Both schedules were filmed without the presence of the lead actors. In March 2024, Hrithik Roshan shot his introductory sequence in Mumbai. A set resembling a Shaolin Monastery was constructed for the sequence.[14][15] In April 2024, Rao shot for an aerial action sequence involving Roshan, on an aircraft exterior set at a studio in Vile Parle.[16][17] In August 2024, Advani shot for her portions in Mumbai.[18][19] In September 2024, a song featuring Advani and Roshan along with a few action sequences, was filmed in Italy, across Venice, Lake Como, Naples, Tuscany, the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast.[20][21] In November 2024, the climax was filmed in Mumbai and Kashmir involving Roshan and Rao.[22]

Soundtrack

The soundtrack will be composed by Pritam.[23]

Release

Theatrical

War 2 is scheduled to release on 14 August 2025 coinciding with the Indian Independence Day.[1][2] The film will release in dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
