G'iah is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Robbie Thompson and artist Niko Henrichon, the character first appeared in Meet the Skrulls #1 (March 2019).[1] G'iah is an agent sent to earth with her Skrull family.[2] She initially helped the Skrulls invading Earth before changing sides after witnessing the cruelty her people used to accomplish their goal.[3]
Publication history
G'iah debuted in Meet the Skrulls #1 (March 2019), created by Robbie Thompson and Niko Henrichon.[4] She appeared in the 2020 Road to Empyre: The Kree/Skrull War one-shot.[5]
Fictional character biography
G'iah is an agent who was chosen to mate with fellow agent Klrr, as she came from the Skrull planet where most of the offspring became Warskrulls. The two eventually developed a genuine relationship with each other.[6] Both lived on Earth and raised their three daughters together, under the guise of a normal American family.[7]
During a mission, their daughter, Ivy, was captured and seemingly murdered by Project Blossom, a secret organization dedicated to hunting down undercover Skrull agents.[8] One of G'iah's daughters, Alkss II, faced an agent from Project Blossom who attempted to kill the family at their house, but was murdered by Alkss II. G'iah became repulsed with what her family has become, as Klrr congratulated his daughter.
While retrieving a device that allows Project Blossom to locate the Skrulls, G'iah discovered that Ivy was still alive, finding her inside a facility. Moloth, a skull agent, murdered Klrr, and attempted to capture the rest of the family while posing as Klrr. G'iah recognized him, and Alkss II eventually murdered Moloth. After Project Blossom fell apart, G'iah and her three daughters began to search for a safe place.[9]
G'iah later acknowledged a message from Emperor Dorrek Vell declaring that the Kree and the Skrulls had united and were going to invade Earth.[10]
Powers and abilities
G'iah possesses the ability to physically transform herself like other Skrulls.
In other media
G'iah appears in live-action media set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This version is the daughter of Talos and Soren.[11] The character is introduced as a child in the film Captain Marvel (2019), portrayed by Auden and Harrie Ophuls.[12] She is among the Skrull refugees stranded on a space station whom Carol Danvers escorts to safety. Emilia Clarke portrayed an adult version in the series Secret Invasion.[13][14] Clarke worked with Mendelsohn to create G'iah and Talos's backstory to "fill in a lot of the gaps", with Clarke believing G'iah would have had an "upbringing that was regimented with training" since the Skrulls are a warring species, that would have led to a "fierce need for her own independence" while judging some of Talos's choices.[15] She originally was dissatisfied with Talos and sided with the renegade Skrull Gravik after Soren was killed, but would later defect to Nick Fury's side after the death of Talos. G'iah later empowers herself with the Harvest,[16] a collection of DNA samples from the participants of the Battle of Earth, to fight and eventually kill Gravik before working with Sonya Falsworth to protect the Skrulls.
