Text and/or other creative content from this version of Amazon rainforest was copied or moved into Deforestation in Brazil with this edit. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists.

Research by Levis et al. has stated that Pre-Colombian societies have had a persistent effect on Amazonian forest composition.¹

However, the results from this recent research have drawn criticism from other scientists.² Among other arguments, it is stated that this recent research ignores the naturally patchy distribution of many Amazonian plant species. In the paper, many Amazonian tree species are considered domesticated, while they are naturally abundant in specific places regardless of human intervention.
