Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names
Navigation: Archives • Instructions for closing administrators • |
This page is for bringing attention to usernames which may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere, or if it needs to be reported at all:
- Report blatantly inappropriate usernames, such as usernames that are obscene or inflammatory, to Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention.
- For other cases involving vandalism, personal attacks or other urgent issues, try Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents; blatant vandalism can also be reported at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, which is sometimes a better option.
Do NOT post here if:
- the user in question has made no recent edits.
- you wish to have the block of a user reviewed. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator (see also Wikipedia:Blocking policy § Unblocking).
Before adding a name here you MUST ensure that the user in question:
- has been warned about their username (with e.g. {{subst:uw-username}}) and has been allowed time to address the concern on their user talk page.
- has disagreed with the concern, refused to change their username and/or continued to edit without replying to the warning.
- is not already blocked.
If, after having followed all the steps above, you still believe the username violates Wikipedia's username policy, you may list it here with an explanation of which part of the username policy you think has been violated. After posting, please alert the user of the discussion (with e.g. {{subst:UsernameDiscussion}}). You may also invite others who have expressed concern about the username to comment on the discussion by use of this template.
Add new requests below, using the syntax {{subst:rfcn1|username|2=reason ~~~~}}.

Name of a business. Editor's only edits that he didn't revert himself have been to add that business and ones like it to the article List of social networking websites. LastChanceToBe 09:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow I'd like to AGF and believe this is just a case of "all the good (domain|username)s are taken", but edit history makes it plain. A company name being used to promote the company, a "Malaysian friendship exchange network". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shenme (talk • contribs) 09:23, 16 March 2007 (UTC). - Disallow - promotional. Also edit history shows promotional-only account - Alison☺ 09:38, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow - for all the above. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 10:08, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow - as per all...--Cometstyles 10:40, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Allow. Without the google link I wouldn't have guessed this was a business name. I saw it as a variant of Mr. X. I see no problem with the username, but if the user continues to spam, they can be blocked for that. - Mgm|(talk) 11:57, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow, the edit history shows the link between the username and the user/company behind the account. Cows fly kites Main: Aecis/Rule/Contributions 12:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Disallow per nom. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 13:43, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Allow there is no evidence that this person has named themselves after a company. Brine Pepaz 14:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Shelbyyoung (talk · contribs)
This User claims to be Shelby Young, but has edited the article on that person by adding material concerning Bridge to Terabithia (2007 film) that is contradicted by IMDb, the film's Web site, and Shelby Young's Web site. A number of editors have accepted her identity on the basis of a photograph, now deleted — but it doesn't sound like a photo that would have been hard to fake. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 13:43, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Comment The picture looked real enough to me. If not, the real Shelby Young is distributing unflattering webcam pictures of herself holding notebooks. How do users typically verify identity? Also, it doesn't seem like Shelby's website has any of her newer roles, so the contradiction with a 2007 movie isn't out of place. Leebo T/C 13:49, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- And the film's Website and IMDb? I couldn't find any source which confirmed his or her claim. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 14:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know about the role. I haven't added it or removed it from the article, but my feeling would be that it was too minor a role to be added. I believe she did do some voice work on the basis of her identity, but it's akin to a stunt man performing a role for the main actor. She's not claiming to have been the main voice actor, just something of a stand in. Perhaps she should make that more clear. Leebo T/C 14:10, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- And the film's Website and IMDb? I couldn't find any source which confirmed his or her claim. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 14:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- This has been dealt with, I saw the picture, it said "I am Shelbyyoung on Wikipedia", it was her, other admins saw this. It was not photoshopped, it is her. Any admin can look at the deleted picture and compare it to her website, a photoshopping would leave tell tale signs. Anything she wants to add to the article needs to be attributed to a reliable source, as anything she knows first hand is original research. I suggest we close this as allow. HighInBC(Need help? - Allow per HighinBC. Coemgenus 14:47, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
