Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by R~enwiki (talk | contribs) at 00:47, 16 March 2007 ({{user|Секссвашейматью}}: disalllow). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is for bringing attention to usernames which may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere, or if it needs to be reported at all:

Do NOT post here if:

  • the user in question has made no recent edits.
  • you wish to have the block of a user reviewed. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator (see also Wikipedia:Blocking policy § Unblocking).

Before adding a name here you MUST ensure that the user in question:

  • has been warned about their username (with e.g. {{subst:uw-username}}) and has been allowed time to address the concern on their user talk page.
  • has disagreed with the concern, refused to change their username and/or continued to edit without replying to the warning.
  • is not already blocked.

If, after having followed all the steps above, you still believe the username violates Wikipedia's username policy, you may list it here with an explanation of which part of the username policy you think has been violated. After posting, please alert the user of the discussion (with e.g. {{subst:UsernameDiscussion}}). You may also invite others who have expressed concern about the username to comment on the discussion by use of this template.

Add new requests below, using the syntax {{subst:rfcn1|username|2=reason ~~~~}}.

Putting here as a test case for Cyrillic (or other foreign alphabet) usernames on English Wikipedia. Personally I believe it falls nder the "confusing use of characters" clause. RJASE1 Talk 00:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

*Disallow based on policy and the type of letters used. --Kukini hablame aqui 00:33, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello people, you need to read our policy again. Foreign scripts are "discouraged" but not disallowed. I'm seriously disturbed so many people are ignorant of what WP:U actually says. SUL is Single User Login. Educate yourselves before you vote please. (especially you Niko, you are not reading that correctly.) pschemp | talk 00:37, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(self-nomination) My username is not a trademark violation. The strident, stringent interpretation of trademark law that has been used here of late is based on an erroneous conflation of trademark and copyright. When I created this (intentionally preposterous) handle, I was searching for an expansion of the "db" that prefixes all speedy deletion templates (a quick review of my edit history will show the reason behind that). I was not aware of any significant issue at the time, because the trademark clause in WP:U seems to invite a narrow interpretation. Consider this a test case. I don't want to change my name and will only do so if I'm made to. Deranged bulbasaur 00:41, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
