Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Nssdfdsfds (talk | contribs) at 23:32, 7 March 2007 ({{user|Nssdfdsfds}}). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is for bringing attention to usernames which may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere, or if it needs to be reported at all:

Do NOT post here if:

  • the user in question has made no recent edits.
  • you wish to have the block of a user reviewed. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator (see also Wikipedia:Blocking policy § Unblocking).

Before adding a name here you MUST ensure that the user in question:

  • has been warned about their username (with e.g. {{subst:uw-username}}) and has been allowed time to address the concern on their user talk page.
  • has disagreed with the concern, refused to change their username and/or continued to edit without replying to the warning.
  • is not already blocked.

If, after having followed all the steps above, you still believe the username violates Wikipedia's username policy, you may list it here with an explanation of which part of the username policy you think has been violated. After posting, please alert the user of the discussion (with e.g. {{subst:UsernameDiscussion}}). You may also invite others who have expressed concern about the username to comment on the discussion by use of this template.

Add new requests below, using the syntax {{subst:rfcn1|username|2=reason ~~~~}}.

Username is a random character string. When approached on his talk page, user was civil, but stated that he didn't want to participate in discussion and didn't intend to change his name. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 22:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disallow - Violation of policy. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 22:10, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I did say I wouldn't contribute, but I will at least repost my comments from my user page for clarity:Nssdfdsfds 22:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you wish to start a pointless meta-discussion discussing my username, go ahead. I really don't have any patience for these things though, so I won't be participating. FWIW, It appears that User:Freakofnurture unilaterally changed [1] the policy from "It is also recommended that users do not choose usernames that consist solely of random characters, such as "ZJUn5XDLfqSve6yO". The user may be mistakenly identified as a vandalbot by an administrator and blocked." to "Wikipedia does not allow [...] Usernames that consist of random or apparently random sequences of letters and/or numbers or of extended repetition of a particular character. " There was nothing about this in the talk page before this change, it was just something he decided to change. FWIW, I did have a wikipedia account before User:GoatSe, but it was blocked because someone didn't like my username. That drove me off wikipedia for about a year, so when I came back I decided to choose a name which couldn't possibly cause any offence. Like I said, I'm not going to be participating, but if you want to go off and establish whether there was in fact consensus for Freakofnurture's change (since it's evident that my name *isn't* going to be mistaken for a vandalbot), and then decide whether you want to block me, go ahead. I won't be participating though, and I won't be changing my username. Nssdfdsfds 19:53, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, clearly a troll, look at all those troll edits. [2] Best ban me quick. QUIIIIIICK. Nssdfdsfds 23:22, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disallow as per WP:U - random or apparent random username. What the policy was is neither here nor there given your account was created last November and the policy change noted was almost a year ago - Alison 22:56, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's ridiculous, the page says "When editing this page, please ensure that your revision reflects consensus." The change was unilateral. So it shouldn't have been made. Accordingly I see no reason why I shouldn't do exactly the same and change it back. In fact, I have done so. So there's no breach of policy. People shouldn't make major changes that cause stupid waste-of-time discussions like this one just because they feel like it. Nssdfdsfds 23:32, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:U#Inappropriate_usernames: Usernames mentioning or referring to illnesses, disabilities, or conditions. --NickContact/Contribs 23:01, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, the only reason I'm using Scitzophrenic is that it has been my user for many years, and I've gotten used to it. I don't mean any offense by it. Scitzophrenic 23:07, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I put in a request to change it. Scitzophrenic 23:21, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
