Career
[edit]This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. (January 2011) |
‘He's one of Britain's foremost music video directors with a career that intersects with the great movements of British music in the past two decades - from acid house to pop. WIZ has been one of the great practitioners and advocates for music video as a popular artform.’[2] – Catalina Velez
‘He’s the last apostle of music video’ – Noel Gallagher
'His videos are among the most sexual and the most hedonistic. Weekender, an eighteen minute short film about the band Flowered Up and the wilder side of dance-club culture, caused a sensation when it was first aired in 1992 on Channel 4 in Britain, and it has been credited with launching the genre of British youth-culture movies such as Trainspotting.'[3] - Steve Reiss, Thirty Frames Per Second The Visionary Art of The Music Video.
‘I loved Weekender, its a great shot of the street’ - Lou Reed, NYC 1994
After training under Polish master Krzysztof Kieslowski, WIZ has made films with some of the most challenging and respected artist’s today, including actors Michael Fassbender, Rosario Dawson, Ben Whishaw, Dinara Drukarova and artists Alexander McQueen, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Massive Attack, Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Chemical Brothers, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, Dizzee Rascal, Emeli Sandé, Disclosure, Richard Fearless, Will Young.
WIZ’s renowned for an ability to cast and elicit compelling performances within highly visual narrative, technical precision and always resounding subject matter. His non-conformist work is as arresting as it is sensual, and has earned many awards and admirers, including the coveted MVA Icon honour, joining ranks with Anton Corbijn and Jonathan Glazer.
His short drama, Baby (scripted and directed) featuring Ben Whishaw was in the official selection Sundance Film Festival 2001. 'The best film in Sundance' - Tilda Swinton
He was chosen to create and direct the BBC period drama, ‘The Young Victorians’ (co-scripted and directed).
His theatrical debut ‘Tainted Love’, won New Venture Theatre’s best play award.
He's currently developing two features: a contemporary erotic thriller starring Ben Whishaw and a Virtual Reality shamanic drama with Tinge Krishnan, Chris Milk & Scott O’Donnell.
